TIL that Dolly Parton entered in and lost a Dolly Parton lookalike contest at some drag bar in LA in 2012

“All of these other beautiful drag queens had worked for months and weeks getting their clothes and all that, and they were dressed like me,” Parton explained in a 2012 interview. “So, I just got in the line and I just walked across [the stage] and they just thought I was some little, short gay guy. And I got the least applause, but I was just dying laughing inside. I say it’s a good thing I was a girl or I’d be a drag queen.”

The US doesn’t deserve Dolly as a national treasure, she’s a treasure of the world

In spite of the USA we have today

Let’s agree that next time they wanna put up a statue of a confederate general, they put one up of Dolly instead. That way, everyone wins, except the loser general.

Many of those loser generals were self aware enough to specifically state that no statues or memorials of them should ever be made. Then Wilson came along…

All the more reason to build statues of her when we sort out some more serious problems.

I love Dolly. Her kindness and grace is an example to the world. She spent her own money to help rebuild the Gatlinburg area after fires destroyed it. She has a free program called Imagination Library that sends monthly books to children. It started regionally, and now she offers it to multiples countries.

She is so much better than the government of Tennessee. There’s a reason everyone wanted her to run for Governor.

As an artist, I find this totally relatable. “Gosh, please don’t erect a statue right now. A statue sounds nice, though. I am not saying not to build me a statue. Please immortalize my likeness.”

I gotta say, given the state of Tennessee at the moment, I would not want my statue anywhere near the other icons they’re raising.

I cannot imagine how hard it is to be as kind, loving, and gracious as she is, but to be surrounded by a world with so much willful anger, hate, and misery.
