Summary
Egg prices in the U.S. have reached a record high of $4.95 per dozen amid a severe bird flu outbreak that has led to the culling of millions of egg-laying chickens.
The shortage is compounded by rising feed, fuel, and labor costs, as well as increased demand and stricter cage-free regulations in several states.
Consumers face empty shelves, surcharges, and limited availability, with some areas pricing cartons at $10 or more.
Prices are expected to continue rising, especially with Easter demand.
This is fun
Holy hell that is hilarious on multiple levels.
Am I correct that that is him pointing and looking directly at the sun?
Yup
That is absolutely perfect. *chef’s kiss*
Is this from that time he stared at the solar eclipse without eye protection?
Yes.
I still wonder if him staring at the sun was more from him just being a complete idiot, or a “imma gunna show them what a MAN I am! This is some real fucking leadership, I tell u wut!”
Given the cost of everything including stickers, maybe it might be good to have a printout of this and take it everywhere, then take an image with this held up next to the prices.
Also, in Bronzo the Clown’s America, I might get deported or sent to Gitmo over defacing some gas pump with…stickers.
The background should probably be the Russian flag.
Swastika would be more accurate.
Is it day 1 yet?
Biden and Obama conspiring in the shadows to help the deep state sabotage trump, obviously.
Having the Jews launch bird flu at farms with their space lasers too.
I hate that I have to, but fucking /s
I skip the /s and leave it as it is as a litmus test over who I can tag with something derogatory for future reference.
Just yesterday my friend texted that his local bodega in the Bronx is selling $1 loosies or $12/dozen. Fucking egg loosies. What’s next? Egg dealers on Gun Hill?
Refrigerated trenchcoat sales on the subway.
Got ya free range here. Extra large. Whites and browns.
French ticklers for me!
Or just sell the non processed eggs that’s easier since they don’t need to be refrigerated
You see the Daily Show sketch?
No, did they do that?
Canned white tuna is now cheaper with more protein per dollar than eggs where I am.
Which they just had a recall on.
$4.95 for one egg is ridiculous. I won’t pay more than $4.50 an egg. 😤
“It’s one banana, Michael, how much could it cost? 10 dollars?”
Enough already
It’s one quote, @phubarr@lemmy.world, how often could you have seen it? Ten thousand times?
Didn’t Jabba-the Orange pledge to lower those prices on DAY ONE?
Where’s the I did that stickers and artificial blame?
Why does that only go one way?
They are on Etsy, and all over the place where I am
Just a reminder, if you’re like me and never even look at organic stuff, check the organic eggs. They’re cheaper at my store right now.
Why not look at organic stuff?
Because being anti-GMO is hateful bigotry. Things like golden rice have already saved and enhanced millions of lives, it’s just that the benefit goes to poor people with dark skin.
Poor Canada, egg prices are the same. /s
Bruh. I just paid $11.83 for a dozen (granted they were organic pasture raised but still)
“Surcharges”
Is that a the grocer version of “dealer premiums” from when car dealers legally price gouged during the covid parts supply shortages?
It’s gonna be like the USSR except instead of bread shops running out of bread you’re just not going to be able to afford it because the grocer jacked up the price to $30/loaf.
$4.95? They’re freaking $10 here.
Mitchell and Webb situation - Chicken farmer
“You see that? It’s made of chicken. It’s actually made of chicken. You kill it; you got free chicken, you can sell it to people. Or… don’t kill it, and fucking eggs come out of their arses! Fucking hell!”
Neighborhood chicken lady went from $2 to $3 a dozen due to the price increase of chicken feed. Hopefully her chickens won’t be affected, mostly for her & her family’s sake.
