This could be work or recreational related. Anything you’ve done that you sit back and go “hell yeah I did that”. I’m typically wary of working on cars because I have big hands and no auto specialty tools. But, I was able to make a pretty involved (for me) repair last week and I’ve felt really great about it since. What about you?

I bought a Pentium II 450Mhz Dell tower for $40 at a flea market recently. It was in great condition except for missing a hard drive. Installed a 32gb ssd with a SATA to IDE converter kit and installed Windows 98. It works! This was my first time doing something like this.

Looking for a good graphics card now. I want a VooDoo 2 but those are like $300 on ebay.

I just wrapped my kids’ Christmas presents and put them under the tree. I really took my time this year too.

Couple weeks back, but this is still one of the things I’m most proud to have ever done in my life

My friend works security at a bar. He texts me a pic of a guy sitting at the bar wearing a shirt with some SS lightning bolts, and said the girl he was with was wearing them too.

They’re not otherwise causing a problem, so the manager won’t let my friend kick these guys out, but he really wanted to.

I’m at work, probably 5 miles away, and I can’t leave to go start a ruckus. But I like this bar and I’ll be damned if I let Nazis get a foothold there.

So I think through my options. I remember that the bar has a jukebox with an app you can queue songs up on. I open up that app and see that I, for some reason, have a ton of credits on there.

And even better, you don’t actually even need to be at the bar to play songs there.

So I begin queuing up every anti-nazi, anti-fascist, anti-racist song I could find.

According to my friend, after a couple songs he got visibly frustrated and steps outside to have a cigarette as All You Fascists Bound to Lose comes on (sadly the jukebox did not have much Woody Guthrie, so I had to settle for the Billy Bragg and Wilco version)

He comes back inside and is created with Youth Against Fascism by Sonic Youth.

I keep it up. I find a version of Bella Ciao to play, Racist Friend by The Specials, This Is America, etc.

This bar has their jukebox set to a family friendly mode, since they also operate as a restaurant during the day. This limited my options somewhat, but I managed to put together a pretty solid dozen or so songs.

He starts looking around the bar, trying to figure out who is playing all this music obviously targeted at him. Of course I’m not even in the same town, so he finds nothing. My friend is keeping busy checking IDs and such at the door and occasionally texting me an update.

At some point in the middle of this someone queued up a single kid rock song, and I strongly suspect it was them.

It only took about an hour and they decided to close out their tab. He walks out to Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Care about Us.

But that’s not the end of this. I’m on a warpath now. I fire up a throwaway Google account and leave a 1 star review of the bar complaining about the Nazi. This causes a bit of stir with the management, and my friend is successfully able to argue for more authority to throw Nazis out.

    Nazi punks can fuck off.

We’re in the middle of remodeling a house that was builtt in 1981. I’m pretty proud of the changes we’ve made so far. I just draw it out and the contractor does the work, but i think we’ve really improved the design, function, storage, and feel of the house. My biggest disappointment is that I should have hired a real plumber instead of a guy with a truck to replace the cast iron sewer lines.

I think it depends on the job. In house cast iron sewer line replacements are only a few steps in difficulty above swapping a sink, not counting the muscle you need to move them, assuming you’re swapping to PVC.

I have a decent bit of pipe fitting under my belt. I really only call my plumber if it has to do with gas (like my stove). Pipes that move water, no problem. I try not to fuck with electric systems at all though.

He went over instead of under the French drain lines because he was digging with a shovel. Now it’s not deep enough to allow proper drainage from a new bar sink. Awaiting next plumber’s ideas.

When I get depressed or stressed, I tend to withdraw hard. I’ve ghosted friends for months at a time before. The guilt that comes with a relative ghosting makes it really hard for me to reach out again and usually I instead just let go of the relationship.

But I had a frank conversation with someone I recently withdrew from and it feels like there’s still a friendship there for us both. So it’s tentative and covered in bandaids, but we’re on good terms again.

It takes a lot of guts on both sides to have a conversation like that. Good for you, keep reaching out, we need people like we need water.

I finished recording, mixing, and mastering a song I wrote.

It’s a big deal to me because my job takes most of my energy, so when I get home all I want to do is sit and decompress. Also I’ve been struggling with getting a good vocal chain and drum sound, and every time I sat down and didn’t get anywhere, I’d get discouraged and not touch it for weeks at a time.

At this stage I just have some minor mixing edits to make and I intend to release it. I’m hoping this gives me the motivation to record the dozens of other songs I have sitting inert in my head.

We finished an EP like a year ago and still haven’t figured out how to distribute it, but this is the only thing we have out there right now really

e: Also, your shit is awesome! Early STP vibes, so the vocal mix doesn’t detract, if that makes any sense at all?

ee: Listening to it again and also feeling some Jet and Cage the Elephant. You fucking rock!

          eee: Also also also,

It’s a big deal to me because my job takes most of my energy, so when I get home all I want to do is sit and decompress.

This is why it took us so long to get from “put first song on YT” to “EP mixed and mastered”. Obligatory “fuck capitalism”.

Seems like everybody is putting together some sort of distribution platform, including SoundCloud. I use CDBaby. Distrokid is popular but I hear too many horror stories about them to consider them trustworthy. They all charge a fee, but that usually means they also handle your copyright and other legal registrations.

I took a few close listens to your track, and I’ll listen again when I get home and can hear it in my studio. But your lyrical style and delivery is incredible! And I appreciate your comments…the Cage the Elephant comparison is really flattering because that’s just the kind of vibe I like to project.

            Stay in touch dude!

We were thinking DistroKid but I’m at the point now that I kind of just want to put everything up on Bandcamp and see what happens. Thanks for the compliment, I’ve been rapping since I was a kid in the 90s and just never bothered trying to do anything seriously until the past few years. My producer is a DNB/EDM DJ so he definitely brings a different feel. I used to produce but just said fuck it after a hard drive failure like 15 years ago, so I know enough about what he’s doing to give notes. He’s also a decent rapper but mostly just layers in backing vocals/hypeman type stuff.

I followed you on SC so def looking forward to you putting out more stuff.

Was getting really unhealthy. Lost 22 kgs so far, been going to the gym the last three months.

Starting to see some muscle definition from lifting, stuff is easier to pick up and move around. Wish i did it earlier, but better late than never.

That is AMAZING! Keep it up. I also lost almost 30kg a few years ago, and managed to stay in shape. I feel so much better since.

      Congratulations!

About a month ago I got a new job with a bunch of very smart people. This week I was making some tests about how good some architecture designs where and some tools we could use to ease our work.

Today I sent a text detailing everything about the tools, which was best and how we could structure everything to use it to its fullest potential and how we could make some grear documentation with it.

2 (out of the 3) people I admire a lot where impressed by it and left comments and heart emojis. And my boss told his boss I’m really good and “A damn lucky find” :D
