WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Monday he’s placing the Washington, D.C., police department under federal control and deploying the National Guard to make the nation’s capital safer.

Trump has promised new steps to tackle homelessness and crime in Washington, prompting the city’s mayor to voice concerns about the potential use of the National Guard to patrol the streets.

Ahead of a news conference, Trump said Monday on social media that the nation’s capital would be “LIBERATED today!” He said he would end the “days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people.”

Violent crime in Washington D.C. is actually at a 30 year low.

He can only do this for 30 days, then congress has to pass a law extending it. Wonder if Congress bends the knee? I have no doubts they will, and it’ll be another example of their cowardice.

DC has seen record lows in crime. This is all Trump going crazy.

I continue to be baffled that people assume that the orangeboi regime “has” to do anything.

They don’t, and nobody who has the barest shred of power to do fucking anything about it is actually doing anything to stop it. They are, and will continue to, categorically ignore laws, court orders, precedent, convention, and so on. They demonstrably do not give a shit.

Stop fucking pretending that this is a normal situation and a normal government. It’s not. The last 4 years were our Weimar Republic era. This 4 (+ ???) year span will be when they do the Enabling Act, citizenship/blood and honor laws, the Treachery Act (honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if they used the same fucking name for it), the Malicious Practices Act, and so on. There is a playbook, and they’re following it.

You’re putting an awful lot of faith in the fact that literally anyone will stop him from doing this longer than 30 days. Congress has to pass a law to extend it? Says who? The law? I don’t reckon Trump cares much about a silly little thing like the law.

More importantly, the law doesn’t care about holding Trump accountable in any way, shape, or form. Convicted on 34 felony counts, absolutely no consequences.

Trump and his team realized long ago that they can essentially make any claim, no matter how outrageous or obviously fabricated on the spot, and their base will still lap it up and keep supporting them.

When the objective truth is no longer an obstacle because you’ve essentially got a reality-distortion field (thanks Fox)…

Faux News tends to reign in super crazy shit every now and then. They still like to speak in enuendo, dog whistles, and veiled accusations. Newsmax on the other hand goes all out like slathering beasts like they’re the Onion on bath salts and Krokodil.

If there’s concern about criminals in DC, let’s start with the sexual predator living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Remember when a bunch of dumb assholes didn’t think fascism could happen in America?

Remember when a bunch of dumb assholes allowed themselves to trip and fall into the “single issue” hole and let fascism take hold in America over a conflict happening on the other side of the planet?

Do you have any idea the emotional toll this takes on the “haves” when they endure the “have nots” getting anything for “free”? Never mind if it’s not even actually free or amounts to providing basic human dignity or life saving care. Bet you didn’t factor that cost in did ya?

And yet when you ask the wealthy how they “earned” their wealth, they tend to gloss over the money inherited, the private schools, the elite education (with zero grants, all paid for), the social connections to other wealthy families, etc. So few came from absolute low income origins.

And not a single damn billionaire can look someone in the eye an say, “I make so much I will never be able to spend it all, so I don’t see any reason I should need any more.” And the creepiest of those fucks idolize the LoTR books, but don’t seem to comprehend the message of Smaug and the Ring, which is that greed for wealth and power corrupts you, and berefts you of humanity.

I feel better now… not really.

So, obviously crime on the streets of DC isn’t the real reason to target that place. So what is? What especially heinous thing is he about to do, for which he requires extra security?

Racism. Most homeless are non-white, aren’t they? I think this coming from the part of Trump’s brain that is controlled by Stephen Miller. The D.C. mayor was on a talk show on Sunday bitching about Miller claiming that D.C. is more violent than Baghdad.

This is yet another push to see what Americans will let him get away with. And it seems like most of America is fine with this.

Anyone want to guess where his next target will be? Maybe one of those dirty crime-ridden sanctuary cities like New York or Chicago.

Edit: That didn’t take long. I was right.
