Trying to carry on the work of their fallen brethren of Russia.
Almost every day for the last ten years, I’ve woken up sad about living in Texas. It’s a feeling that’s pervasive and oppressive, when your home is just wrong.
The best I’d ever hoped for is that one day Texas might get one thing right in the middle of all its bad decisions, but that’s not what happened. Texas is fucking blue. So I’m having a great week.
Where’s Jill Stein in all this? Are the Russian checks no good any more?
the Senate investigation found she didn’t take any Russian money
AIPAC was my second choice
Lemmy.ml for sure be like that. Bunch of sourpusses
I’m realistic, but also allowed myself to be happy yesterday. Life should be enjoyed. I’m mostly excited about my local elections, as there is a much higher chances of things changing for the better in my state and county.
I keep saying that this is just the start, but also as a Texan what a hell of a start.
Howdy, neighbor! It felt great to wake up in a blue Texas!
I say that I hate the haters. But also my enthusiasm is dampened a little by the fact that we had to even experience this because people are soooo fucking stupid.
I literally talked to a middle aged gay man recently who admitted he barely understood what happened Tuesday “Oh we elected a new governor? Or something? What are midterms?”
Its like DUUUUDE THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT HOW ARE YOU SO OBLIVIOUS???
Kimmel did a man-on-the-street piece on Wednesday where they asked subjects if they intended to vote. Most had no idea the elections were over.
In my friend group the two people least interested in politics are a queer guy and a hispanic guy. The rest of us are straight white dudes. I am always baffled that they are not more invested as people who are more likely to be negatively impacted.
Ya like, good that we aren’t going to back slide into autocracy just yet. But like the reason is because the autocrats were so incredibly stupid and incompetent they did things that are directly tied to raising prices on everyone. If gas prices were low, this would have been like 2018.
Just remember something. In the United States, you only exist in a democracy if you are in the top 10% of household incomes. Anyone poorer than this has absolutely zero say in government policy. Your votes don’t matter.
And before some mouth-breathing moron starts hyperventilating about “encouraging people not to vote,” you can actually go look this up. It’s been studied. The opinions of the top 10%, and only the top 10%, are reflected in federal policy going back decades.
This is why the vast majority of people don’t give a shit about democracy in the US. They don’t give a shit about protecting a democracy that they themselves are only nominally a part of. Just because you vote doesn’t mean your vote actually matters.
Tell that to Mississippi.
You miss the point. Democrats listen to the wealthiest 10% that happen to be Democrats. Republicans listen to the wealthiest 10% that happen to be Republicans. The parties are two coalitions of the elites. One elite coalition is mostly folks genuinely trying to make the world better. The other…isn’t. But it’s all a game of elite vs. elite. The rest of us are just along for the ride.
It’s not some conspiracy. It’s just social circles. Politicians spend their time interacting with the upper levels of society. Even when they are trying to reach out to ordinary workers, they mostly do so through workers in relatively elite positions, like union leaders. Politicians just don’t spend much time interacting with normal people, and thus they don’t understand normal people’s problems. Politicians of either party will hear about whatever things the wealthiest 10% happen to be worrying about at any given moment. And we very much are influenced by those we spend our time around.
What bills the new Democratic Congress passes will have nothing to do with what the public as a whole wants. Whatever the wealthiest 10% who happen to be Democrats want? That is what they will focus on, to the exclusion of everything else.
This is why the vast majority of people don’t give a shit about democracy in the US.
I promise you, that is not the reason. Do you get out much? Talk to most people? They aren’t paying attention. And most people are not paying attention because they are extremely incurious about anything that doesn’t directly effect them.
EDIT: Actually, they are extremely incurious about anything at all, even if it does directly effect them. People are completely braindead about paying attention to politics.
Present!
(Please I am begging you Americans to keep up the pressure! Keep going for woke!)
Maybe find the middle ground? It is certainly a good reason to celebrate that republicans lost and Trump shuts up for once. It is also true that there are democrats that would just as well fit the republican party. But it is also sure as hell true that true progressives can only come out of democrats not republicans. So US should make it count, hold anti progressive, status quo democrats to account and root them out. Then it will become a flawless victory.
Dems won, that’s good. They have control of the senate which they haven’t had for a while.
So here’s my damper, there was anti-trans legislation passed in blue states and there was an increasing rise of anti-trans rhetoric within the Democrat candidates. I do not want the establishment Dems and their think tanks to get the take away that they won by throwing trans people under the bus.
I’m still going to be critical of Dems, they have a lot to prove and should be spending these next couple months in meetings on how they deal with the fact Trump will veto everything they do. They will have to find a way to circumvent that veto pen or persecute Trump to the fullest extent possible as well as his regime.
So here’s my damper, there was anti-trans legislation passed in blue states and there was an increasing rise of anti-trans rhetoric within the Democrat candidates.
WA state’s bullshit is going to die in the courts. I’m sickened that it passed; looking at the districts - king and two other counties rejected it… but the boondocks voted for it overwhelmingly. you can’t put that on the left, on establishment dems, when it’s the people in the sticks making it happen.
Here’s an article linked from an LGBT+ focused and friendly online publication. It’s not all relegated to just the reactionaries.
is there a link?
ty for the link. I didn’t know how widespread that bullshit was in the dnc.
between the corpo dems and this trash perhaps it would be best to just replace them.
It’s a troubling trend and we need to be cognizant if more start espousing it.
I hate saying this but imma be honest with you. They absolutely won because they abandoned trans rights as a talking point. You have no idea how many peoples single issue with not voting democrats was gender affirming care. They hate it and will tell you in the same breath that circumcision is ok. The only reason so many republicans flipped was because of how bad the economy is performing.
I’m not saying to abandon trans rights but I think I speak for the majority when I say that running on policy that affects 1% of the population and angers 50% of the population is stupid. Instead of phrasing it to help trans people, we should focus on expanding healthcare access to ALL citizens. Not just trans people.
So a lot of anti trans would-be-red voters voted blue but still supported their gross views in supporting anti-trans stuff. That tracks.
If I’m parsing this right… Good? Right after elections is like, the best possible time for critique. Didn’t want to say it yesterday, but fuck blue MAGA the two party system and the rachet effect. There’s no such thing as a good politician, and less bad isn’t enough. Voting is harm reduction, I’m glad we picked methadone over fent but am still looking to get clean.
From how much anger and vitriol liberals give all throughout the time I have been told there’s no point in time to criticize. A lot of shut up and take it lefty bullshit.
It’s a good time to critique the body of work of the current Congress.
For the new electorates it seems fair to wait until…they’ve actually taken office?
Why not just wait until they’ve retired, hindsight is 20/20 after all
Or, hear me out, now that they’ve got the job of representing us it’s the perfect time to call them out, hold them accountable, and try to make sure they actually do so
Dang I’m not nominating you for the Buc Nasty award. Very solid hatin
Thanks, I try ;)
If it weren’t for the “blue maga” mention, I can take this comment seriously and agree with it 98%. Given that every cultlike Democrat that has ever existed wouldn’t outnumber the maga ones who currently live in a single county in Florida, this is a disingenuous term that destroys the credibility of anyone using it.
I genuinely can’t parse your critique, but find it a funny and apt term for a certain type of person. Political merch cash cows and the “forever war but inclusive” corpos they fall in behind. Feels like the Cali governor is the next one they’re propping up, for a more concrete example. “I’m with her” t-shirts while Bernie was getting fucked over is another
I don’t quite believe that you don’t get what you’re doing or what issue I have with the term “blue maga”. It’s obviously meant to compare rabid racist sociopaths to some democrat equivalent. Every trump supporter I’ve conversed with in my life has copped to zero negative facts about trump. Most they’d ever admit is “he doesn’t always hold back” or some shit. Meanwhile I’ve known many Democratic voters. Most of which aren’t even really that knowledgeable, and yet, they were always open to criticism of Democrats. They rarely make excuses for them. I’ve only known 2 people who like Biden and maybe 1 who liked Kamala. Almost universally, Democratic voters would be in favor of prosecuting Democrats who commit crimes. Meanwhile Republicans cover for a known rapist pedophile.
What you’re intentionally doing is pretending there’s anything comparable about the two groups of voters. You know there’s not much there to compare. And because I know you must know this, you have given up your credibility. Pretty simple really.
…one thing I am sure of is that you’re putting words in my mouth, assuming my intentions, and generally being an asshole. I never had any credibility, I’m a random fuckin shitposter like yourself. At least I know it! Really should know better than to engage too, but yes there are absolutely people delusional enough to deny the crimes of their chosen tribe wherever you look and your anecdotal bullshit is exactly the kind of “evidence” that lets them get away with it
Like I said, when you used that term you knew what you were doing and I wouldn’t expect you to drop the pretense now.
Lmao just noticed your claim that I’m the same as a pedophile cover-upper because I accurately conveyed the demeanor of people I’ve known in real life.
I am glad, even proud, to still have no idea what your problem is lol. Enjoy downvoting every reply I’ve been baitied into wasting on you, not feeling the need to reciprocate that is enough of a win for me
His problem is that the term describes him and he doesn’t like it.
You know exactly what my problem is. Both before and after I expanded on it. Contrary to your “you’re a troll just baiting people” claim, you can rest assured this is the last time you will hear back.
I’ll believe in blue wave when the American empire contracts, it recalls its military, closes the global bases and releases everyone from their gulag supermaxxes
So never. It’s okay to celebrate little wins. It keeps the motivation and determination going. Otherwise people lose hope and that’s bad.
There hasn’t been any wins yet, just an election. I’ll believe it when they end the war in my country. I’m not a USAmerican so I don’t have any hope for them. I just want them to stop doing what they’ve done to my family.
or even enforces its own laws consistently
We’ve seen Obama drone kill kids at weddings in Pakistan. We have seen this circus before.
Yes! Found one!
NO PWEASE DON’T BRING UP THE WAR CRIMES I HAVE NO TRUE MORAL GROUND TO ARGUE AGAINST IT PWEASE.
Here! Found another!
Forever at your disservice.
You either get Blue Peter Theil puppet or Red Peter Theil Puppet. The Money Behind Hakeem Jeffries
The Democrats are electing leadership later in November. I’ve already written to my representative to not elect Jeffries, and I’m thankfully not alone in my sentiments.
My senator is Schumer, so I’m SOL there. Hopefully other Americans are writing their Senators.
You saw it? Did he pilot the drone? Did he purposefully aim at the wedding? Did he target children?
Obama personally reviewed every name on the Disposition Matrix, after they were tried by FISC, a secret court using secret interpretations of US and international law. The DM is still active and in Trump’s hands now.
There were (are?) multiple CIA drone strike programs. I only know about the ones in Afghanistan and Pakistan (I think Southern Spear in the Caribbean is wholly DoD, not CIA.)
In Afghanistan, (off the top of my head) the CIA drone strike program averaged 500 sorties a year, fifty civilian casualties for every person-of-interest executed. The operators called them bugsplats. They called dead children fun sized terrorists. That is to say dead kids were so common they had jargon for the phenomenon. Whether the casualties were infants or grandmothers or somewhere in between, news agencies reported them as militants. Villages were encampments.
PTSD was epidemic among drone operators. Turnover was so high the drone programs were consistently running short and requiring crews to run long shifts. They were also treated like shit by their superiors, which was especially harsh when they were previously pilots.
It turns out killing other humans can be traumatic even if done from extreme distance, and the experience is filtered through digital obscurity. It demonstrated the opposite side of the canard that gamers can’t tell the violence is fake. Drone operators sure can tell the violence is real.
Kill orders passed through at least three layers of command. Often the order to hit a site with Hellfires came after it was evident the POI was nowhere to be found.
Disclaimer: I only researched the program in Afghanistan, now ended, so my information might not apply to the other theaters. The data sets are different so the statistics may also be different.
Obama may not have personally targeted the kids or fired the Hellfires, but he knew what was going on. He knew the heinous casualty rate and could have adjusted policy. He didn’t.
I still think he was the best US President of the 21st century (so far), but he was still an evil fuck regarding the international war on terror. He also fucked up with the surveillance state, and look! It all fell into exactly the wrong hands.
And, eventually we invented the AGM-114R-9X Ginsu Hellfire which pops out blades instead of an incendiary burst, and maybe fewer folks died thanks to the development. That didn’t affect Afghanistan, though.
Don’t put words in another person’s mouth. You know what they meant. Don’t play dumb to enrage the comment section.Edit: Okay wrote without reading the whole comment. They’re being a dick too.

Hate hate hate hate!
I read this in Chris Ray Gun’s voice
should I wade into 4chan/pol/ to drink in the salt, or is it not worth it to give them the attention and have them scrape me for whatever data might leak out?
EDIT : They’re just blaming jews, but calling them “talmundists”. Also, they adapted the n-word to use against magas, by making it into an m-word and keeping the rest the same

Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go put some water in Buck Nasty’s mama’s dish.
