  • I’ve dealt with this kind of depression before. You need to balance between “productive” sources of pleasure and generically fun, easy , meaningless sources of pleasure.

    “Productive” pleasure doesn’t mean you have to start a side hustle, just something more memorable and meaningful thank a quick hit of pleasure.

    For me , the most minimal version was instead of playing randomly generated rougelikes, it was playing 3d games with a plot I had to pay attention to, or a film I had to pay attention to.

    Obviously, the more involved and challenging the pleasurable activity is, the more you feel like you’re growing yourself as a person. But to get the ball rolling you can try that. Then you can work on developing a skill, like painting, or music or something else. Maybe you want to learn a sport.

    For me I worked up from playing Fallout: New Vegas, to playing the guitar more, to programming personal projects.
