I can’t really argue with that. Downloading large files while on the move is going to be very unreliable, and you also don’t want it to happen on your mobile data. I guess I can also see why some of you guys are paranoid about things making the machine overheat, or an unscrupulous OS vendor using the feature to spy on users. Windows Update was one of the worst experiences I had with an OS trying to force my hand, and the thought it could “upgrade” when you think the machine is off would make it even worse.

I was probably just annoyed that my laptop gets hot when the lid is closed and wondered why it can’t just do whatever the hell its doing more efficiently, and partly jealous of the way Apple seem to be able to implement all these nice features properly, but Microsoft just changes the wallpaper and whether app windows have curves on the corners or not in each update of Windows. Perhaps it’s time to try Linux again now I’m not forced to use software that is Windows only.

Intel did make efficiency and power cores separate parts of their CPUs a few years ago, and I wonder if AMD’s can do something similar. Perhaps if Intel and AMD would work with Linux Kernel developers and Microsoft on this feature we could see “power nap” like functionality in the future. Personally I’d like if whatever we had on PC was a bit more configurable than power nap seems to be though, allowing users to set allowable power budget, battery saving conditions and exactly which tasks can run in this mode as well as some power tracking features like on phones to see which apps are using the most.

Twitter wasn’t great before and is now much worse from what I can tell, yet its users don’t actually care because if they did, they’d have moved to alternatives, which hasn’t really happened.

God, I hate reinstalling Windows. Whenever I see “Try reinstalling Windows” as a serious solution to some tech problem on the Windows forums I feel so irritated because to get everything back to how it was (*hopefully *minus the issue) is basically a half day to full day undertaking because of all the bloat and annoying settings I have to change.

Linux never annoyed me as much as long as I put my home directory on a separate partition, though to be fair, I didn’t use it as much and was never quite as balls deep in custom settings and apps as with Windows due to Windows being a requirement for work.

If nutrition labels bothers them so much, why not just make the cereal more nutritious and less full of shit? It’s not hard to see that there is a solution that doesn’t involve looking like a villain with an army of lawyers to fight a label.

Definitely agree with you on how Reddit and forums are different, but they can still be pretty addictive. I just love reading discussions about stuff, and it really scratches an itch that is not satisfied by social media that is centered around personalities. I hate all the self promotion on sites like Twitter and Instagram anyway, as despite there being a lot of cool stuff, there are so many “influencers” and grifters out there it’s honestly a massive turnoff to use the sites.

I don’t know if you are using the web UI or an app, but I found that if you use a mobile app it gets even more addictive. I had to delete Connect from my phone because it made it easier to just sit and scroll. Now I’m doing that on the web anyway, argh…

I just wish they would fix the back gesture to never take me back to the home screen, or at least give me that as an option. It’s the one thing that frustrates me to hell on an almost daily basis when I’m using Android. I don’t need another gesture that takes me to the home screen, and especially not one that often closes the app I was looking at altogether, meaning it needs restarting.

I used to always play Pyro in Team Fortress Classic and would just run around setting people on fire and then running away. It was my only strategy and so I adopted the name.

Honestly I try to only use the subscription feed because the home feed is addictive. I installed the unhook addon to block as many recommendations and other algorithmic things as possible, and try to just search when I want to find a particular thing.

However, sometimes I find myself running out of ideas and just disabling unhook and watching a few things from the home feed before reenabling it and going back to subscriptions only. I think if I also disabled ublock, youtube would be infinitely less addictive, since it would shove ads in my face constantly, and I’d soon get fed up.

So he bought the users and is hoping some of them stay while he rebrands? Or he genuinely just wants to destroy Twitter? I just have no idea what this man is doing, but perhaps he’ll prove us all wrong and show that he really is a genius in a five years?

This may be true, but I’ve seen basically zero ads in Vivaldi with uBlock Origin installed. However, perhaps there are issues I’m just not noticing, or problems caused by having uBlock active that don’t occur in Firefox.

Does it matter if you use a Chromium browser that isn’t Chrome itself? I know Google has a large influence in Chromium development, but presumably they can’t just stick tracking in other Chromium based browsers, can they? I just really like Vivaldi.
