  • Nah, match group has been using fake accounts to lure mostly men into their sites for decades. Make a free account, get a message within 30 minutes, pay 5 bucks to read it.

Last time I used tinder, in early 2023, the app was actively hiding any of the “49+” profiles that had swiped right on me. I’d get, at best, 1 match a week. I mean, 300 (yes, I counted) swipes left and not a single “you missed a match”?? They probably had fingerprinted my device and knew I was a returning user, even if I was on a different phone number, so I was a better target for them to sell their subscriptions. Either that or the algo caught how I was just going left without a thought and kept showing all their fakes and bots.

hell, tinder is so awful that the vast majority of brazilian users there just leave their instagram handle on their profile, with a few also asking to “only message if we match”

  • Back in 2013 or 2014 I think.

I was going out with a woman slightly older than me (me 23, she 27), we had already had sex twice. I don’t recall the exact details of this date of ours, but we met around 19h, later I took her home and we sat in the car, getting hot and stuff, when my hand went down on her, where I noticed something weird. She pulls her panty aside and there’s a male condom sticking out of her. I bust my ass laughing while she desperately tries to not die from shame. We weren’t having anything serious and we both knew the other “might be meeting others”, so I really didn’t mind the fact she fucked another guy before meeting up with me that day. I found it so absurd that she somehow didn’t notice the condom was left inside her that I just couldn’t help myself but laugh.

She started ghosting me after that day, no big loss 😆

  • Keep in mind that social media is the easy way out of boredom. Doing literally anything else requires more effort. Don’t get me wrong, I also feel the need to talk about my interests with other people that i know also share whatever specific thing I’m on about at the moment, reddit’s size makes it much better than lemmy - but that’s the trap, unfortunately.

Case in point, sometimes I spend way too much time here on lemmy of all things, time that I should be spending on better non productive activities, like actually playing my backlog of games. Sometimes I end up reading some reddit posts because there are no lemmy equivalents (and often the lemmy is just a repost from reddit), but I do avoid commenting and interacting there.

You’re extremely unlikely to find the perfect partner or even someone “who understands your tastes perfectly”. The algorithms can do that to a point, but interacting with people requires effort and also helps us understand that keeping ourselves inside our niche bubbles isn’t good for our social health. I share some interests with my girlfriend, but not several others - I’m lucky she enjoys boardgames and videogames, we can play some stuff together, but not some heavy or hard stuff that I personally enjoy a lot. Sometimes I just want to be left alone and play all day long, other times I suck it up and don’t do that in order to keep our relationship going - she understands why I want some “me time” and doesn’t judge me. Trust is important and luckily, we both trust each other a lot.

So tldr I guess is try again and fill that boredom with other stuff. If possible, set up an hour a day to be completely off the internet, at least. Avoid social media mostly because, although you can get some nice conversations on topics of your interest, you’re mostly dealing with faceless names, and this isn’t good for us if it’s the most social we get.
