The same thing we do every recession, Pinky. Try to spend as little as possible on only the essentials and hope we don’t end up homeless.

Self-employed tradesman, ill probably have to get a normal job. Which sucks for everyone, I keep my costs way lower for customers but digging up business and doing the work is a real challenge. And obviously ill miss my freedom. But at least ill just have to pull my 40hrs.

Maybe dumb question: are there loose trade groups that could share advertising / business digging? Or are you basically in competition with everyone else in your field?

Not the person you’re asking, but I’d guess the answer is, it depends. When I had a lawn care service I’d send work to other guys who did what I wouldn’t and they would reciprocate. Did the same with my PC fixing side hustle. “I don’t fix phone screens, but I know a guy.”

Kinda, sure. I know some people and we help each other when we can. And there’s networking stuff you can do, local small business meetings where you can hand out some cards.

But competition is spiking. Lots of people are starting in trades like mine now.

Wife works for a gov in a very stable position, keeping costs below her salary is how we plan to.

I’m already homeless and I’ve got an okay job. So I either I keep living like I do or things become too expensive and I die.

Maybe change careers? My job will end soon and I’m looking for something more stable and values-aligned rather than exciting. I figure people need houses -Any structural engineers want to chime in on how to get into that work late?

I’m getting more interested in my core engineering physics understanding, such as electromagnetics and thermodynamics. I’m not sure how to “get into” that though, because every job I’ve seen requires over 5+ years of experience.

I think jobs like HVAC, electrician, plumbing, construction are all going to be increasingly more important. And I think career change is the only way to survive.

I heard you can stay there forever, they only remove you if they find you. I’m an expert at hide and seek.

      they’ll never find me.

Do not spend money unless you really need those things. Live as a minimalist. It means some sort of isolation, but it is better than being homeless!
