Cats are plagued by almost supernatural reflexes, no one is more surprised about this than the cats.

House cats average 10 to 12 pounds, they’re on the small side of the feline family, so while they are predators, they’re also prey. So they’ve got basically the same startle response as a squirrel: Explode. Leap into the air limbs akimbo and scramble around until you land then figure it out from there. Aeons of natural selection has apparently selected that as the most successful strategy for small surprised quadrupeds.

      almost supernatural reflexes

For real, that video of the mama barn cat in India fighting a fucking KING COBRA to protect her litter is out of this world… Even as a cat lover I was hesitant to watch because of what I thought were impossible odds, then she absolutely bitchsmacks it repeatedly and it just physically isn’t fast enough to strike her.

My cat is a himbo with no fear response, he doesn’t have enough brain cells for fear or mistrust, or landing on his feet.

On the fourth of July my asshole neighbors were setting off mortars that sounded like actual gunshots and instead of running or freaking out he ran up to the window to see what was happening and get closer to the action. He jumped on the back of a chair because he was excited for treats and knocked it over, causing a chain reaction of chaos, and never was he concerned about anything but getting his treats, I don’t think he even noticed. There are a bunch of loud biker assholes that do a group ride by my apartment all the time and every time they do he jumps up in the window and excitedly meows like he wants to get in on it.

Our boy is the same way, absolutely bomb proof. He didn’t even notice the 4th of July happening. He has some mistrust of the vacuum and gets out of the way if it’s coming towards him, but otherwise just sits and stares at it like ‘the fuck is this thing so loud for?’, whereas our previous girl would flee under the furniture the second the vacuum emerged.

The way I knew he actually might have hurt himself after a recent tumble during his antics was that he crawled under the furniture to hide, something he hasn’t done in almost a year with us. He was fine, he stopped limping in less than a day and learned absolutely nothing!
