Hey, we’re only 1/4 through the 21st century so far. It’s too early to call it. The Grapes of Wrath reboot doesn’t come out until 2040!

Yeah the fact that The Office UK is on here and not The IT Crowd just shows they included it due to proximity to The Office US and don’t watch British TV.
What’s controversial about The Walking Dead? (I only saw the first season).
The torture porn for Season 7 first episode. The show went from splatter / hack & slash to a breach of the psychological contract between film makers and the audience. Instead of cutting away for the ultra violence, they stayed fully on it, turning this franchise from a zombie splatter movie into sadistic torture porn, with the sadism directed at the unsuspecting viewers.
I was able to skip past one of those sections because it was telegraphed in the previous season’s ending, but the next one was intentionally designed to catch the audience unaware and was ultra explicit. I did not want to see this and I never consented to this kind of sadistic fucked up shit to be broadcast onto my screen.
Fuck the makers of that franchise, fuck AMC and fuck everyone involved in that decision for all eternity.

Yeah that thought occurred to me - but since the list is as dumb as it is to begin with, I didn’t bother looking for rules of eligibility.

I’m curious how they made the list… It couldn’t have been just some intern / writer putting down their top 100? There had to be some sort of stats involved no? Like number of people watching? Number of weekly watchers? Impact on online discussions? I don’t see what state it could have been which would have ignored so many other shows.
I’ve watched almost none of these. But I’ve seen a lot of them advertised - hard. This feel like promotional material. I’d bet all of these are currently streaming on varying services. I mean looook at all these shows you haven’t seen. Do you want to be the only one who hasn’t seen PEN15? If you don’t keep paying higher and higher monies to your streaming overlords you’ll miss the the in progress award winning shows. Do you want to be a social pariah?
No anime on the list means they’re just uncultured.
I was discussing this list with my wife yesterday - from the other comments we’ve watched more than the average person here. I’d say we’ve seen 4 out of every 5 shows at least one season and probably finished about 20% of them (with minor exceptions like spin offs or movies or new seasons in the last few years with a hiatus).
What struck me was the inclusion of Suvivor and Ru Paul - I don’t doubt their cultural impact and significance, nor their importance towards their fans - but as a mark of quality of what a TV experience can be, considering performances, risk-taking, writing depth, cinematography, music, costuming, editing, props design, imagination and ingenuity - I wouldn’t have included those in the Top 100.
I can get behind survivor being on the list since it was the first and had massive cultural impact. I’d probably put it at 80+ though.
