Major red flag then - if he’s not even spending money on you he earned himself, then he’s just seeing if he can buy affection. He sees this as a transactional situation, and he will get nasty the moment he feels he won’t get the returns on his “investment”.

Btw. as others have pointed out, I also agree that it is already a red flag even if it’s his own money (paying for time/activities spent together on a first date gets a pass from me, but paying for things you buy for yourself does not). And the comment about the transactional nature also applies there.

Way to tell if someone cares about you: they ask meaningful questions about you, your life, your thoughts, your personality. Red flags: they focus on doing things that you pay for, and they mostly talk about themselves or job/money.

Guess what, I even read “No place to hide” by Glenn Greenwald / Ed Snowden. I never said Snowden is bad, but he was naive and quite fucking stupid to think he was working for “the good guys” initially. I am glad he had a change of heart and did what he did. Nevertheless it is more heroic to stay away from evil deeds than change your mind after partaking and then step away.

You missed the point. To get that kind of knowledge, he first had to subscribe to the evil team. Which he did. It would be different if he had joined from the beginning with the motive to expose unlawful practices by the services. It is more heroic to not join team evil in the first place.

Most of us here are more of a hero, because we had the backbone to never actually work for those fascist services to begin with.

I don’t get the downvotes, I agree with you. It’s not okay, and yes, it’s legally rape, but it doesn’t have to be traumatizing the victims in the same way as the examples you also mentioned. And that’s not an excuse, but a reasonable answer to the question you responded to.
