The online survey of 1,002 U.S. adults was conducted between Jan. 13 and 15. It found that 66 per cent of respondents want Canada to remain an independent nation

Yeah, I don’t entirely object to the reverse (as long as California is adopted into the family), but making Canada part of the US? No thank you. Fucking crab bucket mentality; can’t let other people have nice things.

As a Canadian I like visiting Minnesota and it feels like a real shame not to be able to visit there right now because of all the fascism. I think many Minnesotans would fit in quite well among Canadians. But there are also some horrible reactionary elements there. Perhaps persuade them to move to Texas first.

Let’s just tell them all that Canadian electricity will make their kids gay.

Or maybe we blame all that fresh air you send our way.

Even if 100 percent of then wanted to they still wouldn’t have a moral claim over it.

How about you guys get your house in order, fix your stupid gun laws, and then we can talk about something like North American Schengen. Quebec City to Chicago in high speed rail sounds like fun, you know?

That sounds lovely and like something I have argued for for my entire life and will continue to argue for. It’s currently unclear if the US will splinter, but I dream of a day when high speed rail can take someone from Vancouver to Mexico City

Fucking hell that’s too high. They’ve been nothing but an excellent neighbor to us and they want to remain sovereign. This is just a demand for a forever war against old friends that will also result in us actually being attacked on our own soil for once. Because yeah, they know where our bases are and if we’re invading they’re going to use their modern military.

In fact, I’m angry at the term annex here. Annex is a word that feels neutral and like it could be bloodless, the word in question is invade or go to war with. Going to war with Canada would result in attacks on our cities. Civilians will die on both sides for no fucking gain. Billions of dollars in infrastructure will be wiped out for good reason and that’s all assuming that nato stays neutral, which they’ve made pretty clear isn’t the case. We need to start talking here with the people in our lives about how that’s what “annexing” canada looks like, and make damn sure that we get into the 90+% range vociferously opposing this bullshit.

I think even many Canadians don’t think it through. If we survive the initial invasion we will be deprived of education, healthcare, freedom of movement, democratic representation, autonomy, resources like water and electricity, employment and money. Some of us would be pulled out of our homes and disappeared or killed, particularly if we’re vocal critics of the USA. We would be closely watched and guarded and met with violence at the first sign of resistance or noncompliance. Our children would be indoctrinated in school. Our scientific institutions would be shut down. Our friends and family, particularly anyone who is not a straight white cis Christian conservative, will be in constant danger. It won’t be just an administrative handover that allows Canadians to get on with their lives. It will be brutal and punitive.

Which is why violent, disruptive resistance would be the norm. I’m talking making the Taliban look like a relief organization. I would happily make sure Americans fear for their lives every second of every day if it ever came to that and I know Im not alone in that. If I had to die as a result, as long as I take out 10 Americans before I do I’d die happy.

In other words, terrorize the fuckers until they go home.

We would, but what other choice would we have if if happened? Just kowtow to the US? Fuck that. Would it suck and make everything horrible? Yes, but not like Ukraine had an option when their war started.

We need to figure out how a smallish, largely unarmed population could make a large, heavily armed force wish they had never met us.

It’s at least 2x-3x that statistic. They are just even more ignorant or uninvolved in life outside of their small town.

The percentage of Americans– actually humans in general– who’re are just utterly irredeemably idiotic is above 17% in my estimation. So coming in less than that is a win in my book.

i think 20% probably are irredeemably stupid, another 20% could have been lifted up by better education and parenting.

I agree with you (20>17, as I suggested) but I honestly like that you put an optimistic spin on the rest.

That 17% is just the people who whole-hog wanted to annex Canada. There’s an additional 16% that didn’t care enough to have an opinion on it.

Is 1 in 3 more along the lines of what you were expecting?

This is questionable. Partially because the knuckle draggers who support trump largely wouldn’t know what the word annex means.

I want Canada, Denmark, or almost anyone else to annex the US west coast.

Maybe Canada could trade Alberta with the US in exchange for Oregon, Washington, and California.

Considering you can get 30% of americans to agree with anything on a poll, 17% must be like the amount of americans who think like “autonomous” means “automobile maker” or something and are too embarrassed/overconfident to ask for clarification.

70% of Americans believe in angels. If you take the extreme end of that statistic you can just insert any crazy belief.
