Cats were about 10,000 ya. We didn’t need cats until we had loads of harvested grains to protect from rodents.

I read somewhere a while ago that if all those ‘pedigree’ breeds are left to go feral and start interbreeding, within several generations their descendents snap back to basically being wolves.
I had hoped that we millennials would have “killed the pedigreed breeding industry” by now.
It didn’t take that many generations for us to do it to foxes, so going back might be just as fast.
