Isn’t that the old Xerox logo?
If I had to guess, I’d say they’re trying to maximize their market cap. It’s no secret that they’re looking for a buyer and/or eyeing and IPO. The more profitable they can seem before that, the more money Huffman can walk away with.
I’m physically incapable of laughing hard enough at this.
As if we needed another reason to not buy Ubisoft crap.
LoL… we had a hound dog named nugget. Runt of the litter.
It was a certain turtle, so it wasn’t hard to figure out. And yeah, I’m on eight at this point. Even if I was interested in fighting the good fight again, with the way things are going over there, he’ll be back in power in no time. I’m done with that nonsense; I’ll go back to Fark if I have to.
I had 130K+ karma, and after my eighth “permaban,” I decided to stop fighting it. I pissed off a couple of power mods, and they began abusing the report function. Calling them out by name got me “unbanned” every single time, but I’m done at this point… Reddit is dying, and I don’t care.
I’ve been informed numerous times by legal counsel that any legal threat which doesn’t come via certified mail can be ignored. I am not a lawyer; this does not constitute legal advice in any way.
At some point, maybe. Back when I was running my own Mastodon instance, things were pretty much in this same state, but lots of other things have improved.
I mean, in Russia, anything is possible, but in any country that respects the rule of law, you’re a citizen if you pay taxes.
I honestly don’t think that it will ever get big enough for billionaires to even take notice. Even if we get 10% of the total social media traffic, which is a massive number in and of itself, the sharks are going to be fighting over much larger stakes.
If the fediverse does somehow manage to get large enough to attract the attention of the pigs that run the farm, I suspect they’ll just clone the (open-source) code, make their own instance running on another protocol, and throw their weight around to get everyone moved over there.
Relying on the judiciary or the legislature is a bad gamble.
I’ve been “permabanned” from Reddit eight or so times, with all but the most recent one contested and reversed. Short story: I pissed off a certain turtle, and he made sure to report me for inciting violence every chance he got, which, best I can tell, is a preemptive ban regardless of post content. With this latest one, though, I’m done; I’m not even fighting it. I needed a good kick in the ass to get off of Reddit, and this is it.
I was just thinking this morning how much this platform reminds me of Usenet, at least in its cross-server “fediverse.” I remember waiting days sometimes for different Usenet servers to sync up so I could get replies to shit I posted a week ago. The lag may not be as drastic with Mastodon/Lemmy/Kbin/whatever, but it’s the same basic concept.
None of this, though, makes me nostalgic for the days of newsgroups. That shit was a hot mess, and I’m frankly glad it’s effectively gone the way of gopher.
Short-term gains at the expense of long-term retention. Sounds like they’re looking to sell.
Sounds like they’ll be bringing turtle, everyone’s favorite boot-licker, back with gusto. Good riddance.
Edit: Clearly @Hellsadvocate is your average turtle fan. Explains a lot, in hindsight.
Just the unofficial patch and some player homes that I haven’t gone to see yet. Still building settlements, and loving it.
Oh, my friend, that ship has sailed.
We made it this way because you’re stupid. Also, if you don’t like it, you’re stupid.
No wonder it turned out to be a pile of dogshit.
