It would be nice to see their sample grouping though. If someone leaves a finding statement to fit something as broad as an entire generation, it leaves questions as to who exactly was polled. I don’t just mean overall, I would like assurance that every age group has it’s own equal representation.
I would expect that a very large number of people across various countries, ethnicities, education levels, health levels, and more for these findings to be at all legitimate. It would be silly to try to define the entire planet’s worth of a generation off of a relatively small sample size, like 500 people from across 3 countries.
I would also love to see if the actual questions were biased or not, and if this group has any incentives for certain findings. I can’t really say that VOX is one of my go-to sources for serious stuff either, though.
Learning about media bias was HUGE when I was in school. It’s everywhere.
I would love to see their sample group. Do their subjects share other aspects in common too, or do they just share a generation? Do they all have similar income? Do they all have similar access to the internet? Do they all have the same educational background? Do they use technology equally? Were the actual poll questions biased? What defines “scam” in this scenario? Who paid what as a result of these scams? Are they of the same political background? Are disabilities and minorities represented fairly across age groups? Were any profits gained as a result from this poll? Do the participants live similar lifestyles at home?
I’m always suspicious when they don’t list these things. It can be very easy to create biased results.
They list these things, but education for example, is just overall rated by the country. If we’re making statements about age groups, I think the individual age groups should have equal representation. This would help avoid cherry picking. Otherwise, they could just pick a Gen Z who has poor education and compare them with a Gen X who has a good education. You wouldn’t see it, because they’re from the same country.

In my mind, no one really asked to exist. On that basis, we should all be treated equally and fairly. You can’t pick your birth year, home country, etc. In my opinion, it would be wong to judge someone on those aspects, or to treat them differently. In ny workplace, we’re all just people trying to get by.
It’s scary seeing how many people also don’t understand that these laws protect you from government entities.
IYoutube is considered a private company, as it isn’t run by the government. So, protective laws against government rules don’t really apply. Proper court proceeding would be good, yes, but youtube is not the Court. Youtube can and does control what is on their platform. They are contract bound to advertiser interests, and their advertisers don’t want to risk encouraging him if he is guilty. That is also their right, as they are also private entities. There is nothing that obligates them to continue funding someone. They could also decide to stop funding because the guy like bagels.
As a private entity, google could theoretically stop every single youtube channel today, if they chose to do so. They can decide to not host your content just because you like potatoes over radishes. It’s their private platform.

I think I’m suited to answer this. I manage multiple people, including Gen Z. I am also Gen Z. People are actively trying to work here.
One of the biggest factors is employee appreciation and respect. A lot of companies will half-ass that front through just giving their employees an occasional pizza party. The problem with that style of management, is that it removes the human aspect. It kind of just turns it into another thing to just “check off the list” for corporate. It’s something commonly thrown back at employees who complain. We’ve seen that happen enough to not want to deal with it.
It’s also important to focus on the little things. Small details are what make up the big picture. If you leave those out, the big picture will be incomplete. Congratulate them when they reach a new goal. Tell them when they do work that would make the company proud, within reason. Encourage them, and actually work alongside them sometimes. If you want to throw free food on top, maybe poll your staff for their opinions on restaurants/food trucks. Show them you care.
Regarding the human aspect, a happy employee stays, and a happy employee is also usually a productive employee. Get to know your staff a bit, casually. Try to give reasonable allowances for time off during stressful life situations, like when their home floods or their sibling dies. Most companies will only allow the legal minimum.
Don’t expect more from them than what you are willing to do yourself.
Accept their imperfections and work with them towards improvement. Instead of shouting, go straight towards the solution, and include them in the process. Allow them to learn how to avoid the mistake and learn how to fix it with you. Don’t baby step it, but maybe show them a cool trick for that process if you have one. Remember that they are human and that there was also a time where you didn’t know how to do it.
I’ll be frank with you. Many of us don’t see a great future over the horizon, so we’re kind of making the best with what we have. We want to enjoy as much of the time in-between as we can. We’ve seen our grandparents, parents, siblings, and other family members become burnt out and emotionally overwhelmed, and we don’t want that for ourselves.
The best way to not have that, is to not go along with it. So, hypothetically, I would go to the next job that treats it’s employees well, even if the wage is the same. Why would I waste my efforts and hard labor on someone who doesn’t value it? Why not spend it somewhere where I can learn, improve, and thrive?
I don’t get why so many people feel the need to defend big corporations this much. It’s not like they’re going to share the profits with the people who defend them, nor do they probably care.
If anything, the industry will just use whatever ammo they can to exploit more people.
Without maintaining and creating protections, they will roll back until there are almost none. Our current labor rights didn’t come for free, they were fought for.
It’s only anecdotal, but a lot of the people I know who were hateful like that while growing up actually did come out as LGBTQ+. Some were trans, some were gay, some were bi, etc.
Some of them are just a-holes though. One dude complained about a gay classmate. He never liked it when I asked him why he was thinking about what the other guy was doing with his bits so much. I’ve always thouht it was a fair question. I never did get an answer, though.
I try not to take it personally, because I have NO idea what’s happening in that person’s life, or what’s happening in their head.
What if some of those people are deaf or mute? What if their parent just died and they’re doing their best to not break down in tears? What if they had the most infuriating day/night of their life, and they are so upset that they can’t be polite? What if they speak a foreign language? What if they have in-ear headphones that are tough to see?
There are many situations where I would feel silly for expecting a response, and realistically, many of them would be invisible to strangers.
For example, you’re probably not going to tell someone who wished you good morning that you can’t talk because you just found out your baby is going to be stillborn. You’re probably going to try to shut things out while you process the intense emotions.
Please don’t take it so personally, and maybe try to be a bit more empathetic to strangers. Neither you or I likely even have a chance of knowing their reasons.
I don’t know about you, but I would honestly feel like a terrible person for getting annoyed at someone for not talking in the example above. One you say something, it’s too late to undo it.
Please please please remember that a LOT of people likely have things going on that you’re unaware of.
Everyone should remember that no one is immune to this stuff. Anyone who truly believes that they are immune to is probably more susceptible to it. No one is right 100% of the time.
As a generation, we don’t all share the same headspace. What you or I might be good at spotting might not be so easy for someone else to spot. I would love to agree with you that our generation as a whole is good at seeing this stuff, but I’ve also seen some pretty shocking things over the last 5 years. Some people will believe things blindly, if it makes them feel better than someone else. Some people have even been taught to do so.
As much as I love gen Z, I think that a lot of people within it really struggle with empathy and critical thinking. Unfortunately, I think that those missing traits also make them much more susceptible to believing random things. They give the rest of us a bad name when they do that, and I really hope that they seriously work on verifying information, if nothing else.
We need to do much better, overall, if we want to legitimately claim that we’re better for this stuff as a generation. We need to properly hold people accountable if/when bad stuff happens, especially if those bad things happen because someone didn’t bother to verify something before they acted.
Almost all of us know how to use the internet ffs, it should really be easy to just take the 10 seconds to search something.

My grandmother was an amazing woman who devotes her life helping others. She was a nurse who also volunteered at old folks homes in her free time, and she donated to many good causes. She loved the teaching of Jesus. Her dad was a WWII vet, and she cared deeply about treating others with love and charity.
She passed away over a decade ago, and while I still don’t like the idea that she’s gone, I’m happy that she never had to see this all of this happening. She would have been absolutely crushed.
I would still try to fight for more than you make. It will be tough, don’t get me wrong, but I think most industries are in this position one way or another. Everything is going up, and everyone has to eat. Why can’t everyone make more, so less people suffer? The costs for everyone have certainly increased. A lot of these “record profits” should really be finding their way to employees, but they rarely do anymore.
With the “unskilled coal mine work” example specifically, I believe a big reason for their pay rate is the numerous immediate and long term health risks that are associated with it. Historically, mining has been a pretty fatal/dangerous job. They miners will probably need that money down the road if they get any of those bad conditions. It’s certainly not a job that I would feel safe doing, nor is it one I would ever do for cheap. You should look into all of the associated lung diseases and ths effects that certain mined materials can have on the human body, especially with prolonged exposure. PPE can only do so much sometimes.
When I see people making more than me with less skill, I think “damn, I should be making that too”. Why can’t both jobs have good pay rates? Both would be nice. What a world we live in.
If you can, unionizing might help. It takes the company perspective from “we’ll lose one great guy” to “holy shit, everything will crash and burn if we don’t meet their demands!”. I would also look into the laws in your area. Where I live, unions can protect you well before you actually create a contract. That knowledge was very useful to my coworkers and I a couple of years ago, because we previously thought that they could just fire us for trying to join a union (jobs are at-will here).
If you get a good union, the pros can outweigh the fees easily. They can cut right through a LOT of corporate bs, and they will usually provide lawyers for you if your company tries to screw you over. The lawyers mine provides are pretty top-tier.
This reminds me of what happened at my last job towards the end of the lockdown. Previously, you started at a certain wage and increased a specific amount every 500ish hours, up to a limit. The last “raise” was only like 4 cents, but you still had to work the extra 500ish hours to get it.
Well, the company decided that they weren’t paying enough to be competitive, so they suddenly raised everyone to the top rate. This put people who just started their very first job at the same pay rate as the people who had been there for multiple years. Their “solution” was to give the long term employees a one off, taxed, check for $200. To say that people were angry would be an understatement.
Personally, I think they should have just increased everyone across the board, especially after previously bragging about making record profits multiple years in a row.
IMO, when someone else makes more, it gives me room to also argue for more. Otherwise, why not go to another company that will pay it? Getting angry at the guy with the raise won’t give you one. Inflation will still happen.

I agree that in an existence with that decision on the line, we would have to question many things.
Does someone innocent have to die, or is someone lying about the rules of the decision to save themselves? Would people who expect to kill this person be willing to offer same thing themselves? If not, why can they really decide for someone else? Is the death actually necessary, and how? Will new religions form from this?
What happens if it fails? Will that person just be dead for no reason? Will their loved ones be cared for? Who would even qualify?
I was really craving pancakes with maple syrup, but I was at home without pancake mix or syrup, and everything was closed because it was 3am.
The only bugs I really encounter are the occasional crash when expanding comments on random oddly specific threads.
I’m actually kind of excited to see where all of these apps will be in another year or so. There’s so much potential!
I think my workplace had that until they realized that it also stopped management from being reachable. Fucking lol.
If true, I hope that they leave some of the goofy bugs and ai in the game. I think the weirdness of the interactions between NPCs is part of what made me love the game so much before.

I also loved how the guards would try to attack through through space and time, with a lively “Beuaregeh!” as they hit absolutely nothing.
Other times, you’d see a guard kill someone, only for that same guard to go up to the body, gasp and shout “there’s been a murder!”.
I loved some of the messed up object physics too.
Losing the plankton in the ocean on top of losing vegetation would also cause oxygen problems, iirc.
