I can remember my first dick pic. I, 15, met some guy in his 30s in some yahoo chat room. I remember waiting so patiently to see what he looked like. As that’s what I thought the photo was.

He told me he would buy me a plane ticket to see him.

    How sweet.

Line by line. Waiting. Waiting. Another line.

A blurry dark photo. Hard to tell what it was.

Another line of pixels . Another.

    The anticipation…

    Another line.

Oh. Hey. Ya, pretty sure that’s a dick. Cancel that.

A similar but also opposite experience in many ways: I vividly remember me and a friend (teenage boys, mid 90s) waiting for a picture of a naked lady on some website, slowly loading line by line. Took forever. Finally it failed when it got to her chest, just above the boobs we wanted to see 😢

Remember buying a “yellow pages style” book of what websites you could go to and half of them didn’t work? lol

I mentioned a meme I saw to a friend of mine and it turns out he doesn’t have social media at all. He just said “The mediocrity of it…” and we went back to talking about other stuff again.

    He had a point.

I’m old enough to remember when the World Wide Web was so new it had to use the full URL to differentiate itself from established services like Telnet and Gopher.

I remember watching the Netscape animation in excitement waiting for something cool to load in the browser window even if it was probably “under construction” 🚧

Haven’t felt anything like that sitting in front of a computer in a very long time.
