    But Your car needs to be at least 20 years old for this to happen. Used to happen a lot when I was driving a 1989 VW Golf.

      I can second this. I once got 2nd and 4th gear back in my 1993 Saturn LS1 after getting some air time off a decent bump on a country road.

      Coincidentally, that same bump is how I lost 2nd and 4th. Life can be tricksy mistress.

        I had something similar! I got some sick airtime while off-roading with my cousins in my 1995 4Runner, and when my back wheels caught a hidden hill, I bent my axles! But I was able to easily fix them by hitting my wallet with a $1,500 bill, and then crying a lot.
