This was never actually about race and culture as much as control and power. It’s just that now our society has atomized to the point that people don’t face social pressure anymore to keep up appearances and pretenses, so they just go ahead and barge into cognitive dissonance without a care in the world. We’re in the age of pandemonium.
You’re one of the good ones until you’re not. A lot more are gonna realize this at some point while this administration is at the helm.

I really thought this was one of those lessons we all learned from Saturday morning cartoons, that if you ally with the bad guys, they will likely turn on you just the same because they’re bad guys.
I feel like we were all watching very different cartoons as kids, that or there were a LOT of kids watching and booing and feeling angry and disappointed every time the turtles beat Shredder.
You’ll find there’s a sizable group of minorities in every group that will sell out to be the token.
These guys were career CBP, NOT new hires. That means ALL CBP is trained and held accountable to the same level as them, and has been for over a decade.
This along with things like border patrol operations covering 100 miles inland from every border needed to be fixed years ago IMO.
Especially when airports are considered borders.
I do think it’s super important to point this out. This wasn’t a greenhorn or a training failure. This was done by people who have been in there for a long time. This speaks to the caliber and type of person ICE and CBP have been hiring for years.
I mean I figured it was the case that whoever shot him wasn’t just some rookie, but DHS was even attempting to leak to the press this was just a big whoopsie on account of the new guys being inexperienced, unprofessional, and startled easily.
I still don’t buy this wasn’t intentional. Nobody puts 10 bullets (in 2 separate rounds of firing) in somebody who’s already been disarmed and incapacitated by accident. Even for Border Patrol that was excessive. Definitely not the first time they’ve encountered protestors, but the first time a “border czar” happened to be waiting in the wings with the promise this could all be over so quickly if local police would just start rounding people up and handing them over to DHS so that “ICE and Border Patrol could stop putting themselves in danger.”

Honestly I somehow picture this spinning in 2 directions.
Maga’s going to find a way to claim illegal immigrants infiltrated ICE, and that’s the reason why there’s violence now… so we need more ICE to deal with Illegals.
Well, seeing that the white nationalist group the “Proud Boys” (show tunes are so manly you guyz! the Proud Boys are rock-hard macho men, unlike the liberal soy boys! There is nothing the least bit homoerotic about our little boys’ club!) was being run by Henry Tarrio, someone who is decidedly not white, things sure have gotten very weird.
Of all the various videos I’ve seen of Taco’s terrorists in Minneapolis and elsewhere, it does seem like quite a few people of color seem to be in their ranks…as a white guy, I don’t know how on Earth I’d live with myself doing that job, but I would think it would be even worse for someone that is brown or black targeting mostly brown and black people and disappearing them…
So these two are CBP, not ICE. CBP is much more often the people on the border searching for drugs, not the people rounding up undocumented immigrants. People of color might sign up for CBP thinking they could help lower the amount of fentanyl being smuggled in. Now, these two specific guys are clearly in it to hurt people, regardless of their skin color.
I mean look, if you’re let’s say 2nd or 3rd gen immigrant, Spanish speaking, systemically excluded from the white collar economy, it’s a good gig. Saying no to career paths is a privilege, one that I have also as a white dude 100% enjoyed.
While I can see even being an agent and enforcer… it’s possible to be a good guy in desperate situation, no different than how I can see someone might turn to a mobster or gangster that way. Hell even the “If I don’t do it, someone worse will take the job, I can at least do it with as much compasion as the job allows”.
Those excuses kind of go out the window though when they start shooting a prone, disarmed, pepper sprayed guy. I can hate the organization, and note it has horrible training. Being desperate enough to join ice is one thing… however you’d think that would lead to being as non horrible as possible in the job. As not every ice incident leads to a shooting, it’s still fair to say the ice agents that do shoot peaceful protestors are clearly the worse of the worse.
I get what you’re saying but I also hate that shit. These people made choices! And ok let’s say it was between signing up for a fascist position or being homeless, they made the choice that it’s better to cause pain to someone else before themselves. Also, we’re assuming they didn’t have other choices which is probably biased in itself. End of the day, you don’t get a pass to torture and kill others for your own survival.
I was thinking hooray for them for putting their names in the actual headline, but at least they put their names above the fold.
Propublica still has journalistic integrity. Unfortunately it’s rare lately.

These are the people that pretended to give a rip about freedom, the Constitution, states’ rights, and claimed they were creating weapon arsenals to fight a government that has gone rogue and so on.
Many of them also recently claimed to have supported Donvict because he was going to be for “peace” and not all these wars of aggression we have done so many of.
And here we are. Predictably. They don’t really have any principles other than “fuck liberals, we want to make women and LGBTQ cry and if Taco is grifting left and right to the tune of billions, telling us we don’t really have any rights - 2nd amendment as well as the first and the fourth, while we and our children may literally go hungry and have no healthcare, that’s a good thing as long as we think the libs and non-whites and non-xtians are getting it worse.”
