There’s been a couple of minor dust-ups on mastodon about the conduct of so-called “big accounts” there that I do not care to comment on, but it has got me thinking — do we even have “big accounts” on the threadiverse (Lemmy/piefed/mbin)? I don’t think there’s any handle I’ve seen where I’ve been like “oh yeah, that person.” Am I just bad at remembering usernames, or does the community/thread style of discussion remove all continuity for a single account?

I’ve wondered if I’m at fault for the decline in content on artshare. Do I share too often or too much?

Because of the thinning of that community I’ve started spreading out to Bluesky looking for a larger community. Mastadon is pretty thin and I find it hard to find a community there at all sadly.

The_picard_maneuver I feel was a large reason there was even enough meme content to make it start feeling like a reddit replacement for me. I don’t hate power users here since we need more posts to keep the fediverse content active. Maybe if we had 10k+ upvote posts in a single day it’d get old seeing the same faces, but if the content is good it’s elevated. I’d only want something done about it if there were bots who follow-voted to achieve misleading numbers.

Never mind these no name nobodies in the other comments. I have decided to grace this thread. Please continue to anoint me with rare fragrances and oils; fan me with large palm tree leaves, etc.

I think I’m on here too much because I was kind of surprised, my first reaction was “of course! People like stamets, ladybutterfly, silence7, PugJesus, The_Picard_Maneuver, etc…”

But I shouldn’t really think of this as obvious, but more of a sign that I should be on here less lol

There was FlyingSquid who was a “power user” and mod, posting seemingly 24 hours a day, but he seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. Apart from that the only users I recognize are the ones I typically have regular disagreements with over politics.

FWIW I tend to block power users on whatever site I’m on. It feels like going to a party and having three people come and stand between you and the party. I also block a ton of meme and nonsense groups, that’s not why I come to lemmy.

Sometimes I feel like I spend too much time on this site, so I’m pretty glad to not see my name popping up in any of these comments, ha. Makes me feel less like a dingle with no life. (No offense intended to heavy posters, I’m just referring to how I feel about me. I wouldn’t ever think someone else who posted a lot was a dingle with no life, because a lot of people’s social lives happen online and that’s okay.)

Same here. At one point, I tried to be known for providing a certain type of content here, to help fill out a then-quiet community. But I’m kind of glad no one really recognizes me until they see a post by me. I’m here daily, but I mostly lurk, so I don’t particularly want to wake up to hundreds of comments in my inbox every day.

And yes, I’m still trying to provide that content despite my apparent hiatus. I’m just dealing with seasonal depression (as well as all the national news drama going on in my home state 20+ minutes from my home), so it’s hard to get motivated to be creative lately.

Some have already mentioned Lady Butterfly and other big posters who might not comment much but create the bulk of casual convo threads. Thank y’all for your service!

I’m a big fan of jankforlife, their posts always get downvoted to hell and back but they’re still at it, fighting Western imperialist brainwashing one shitpost at a time. 🤣

Then there are a handful of people who, despite our disagreements on certain let’s say not super important topics (at least not important from my side), I find very reasonable and pleasant to talk to so I tag them accordingly for easy recognition. I wish I knew how to find a list of tagged users so I could also give them their flowers but I guess I’m not that tech savvy. 🤷

Oh and I’ve also blocked someone who just never argued or even talked in earnest and I felt like they always replied to my comments in bad faith… on two separate accounts!
