Subramanyam Vedam, 64, was recently exonerated for murder after being sentenced to life in prison in 1983
A Pennsylvania man who was recently exonerated after spending more than four decades behind bars has now been taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) and faces possible deportation to India.
Earlier this month, Centre county’s district attorney dismissed murder charges against 64-year-old Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam. However, shortly after his exoneration, Vedam was detained by ICE based on a 1988 deportation order tied to his now-vacated convictions.
The suffering is the point
I weep for him. This administration has gone mad and those voted for him are just guilty.
I am not going to Thanksgiving this year. I am not going to pretend everything is okay and let the Trump support lead the family prayer when she is such a bad witness.
At this point the judge should grant him enough money as damages for him to go live comfortably wherever he wants
He has a drug conviction from way back that he was not exonerated of, unlike the murder. The drug charge by itself is a legal ground for deportation.
What is legal and what is moral aren’t always the same. Exporting him is absolutely immoral.
43 years of his life lost due to a wrongful conviction and instead of trying assist him after he’s suffered tragically due to the state’s failure, the state is making him disappear. Those 43 years vastly overpaid any “debt” he had to society for his drug conviction. Have compassion for an old man that’s suffered such unrecoverable loss.
So 40 years isn’t enough time for a drug charge? I’m not asking about technicalities.
