Russia could be ready to attack Nato within five years and leaders of the western alliance are expected to agree to increase military spending to 5% of GDP this month to contain the threat, the alliance’s secretary general has said.
Mark Rutte said in a speech in London on Monday that Nato needed “a quantum leap in our collective defence”, which would include significant rearmament to deter an increasingly militarised Russia.
That would include a fivefold increase in air defence, thousands more tanks and millions more artillery shells to boost stockpiles and ensure Nato countries match existing levels of Russian production.
Technically anyone could attack nato but that doesn’t mean it would be successful
I don’t think the SG actually believes that, but whatever serves the goal of European military independence.
The more concerning shorter term threat is a rogue United States, but that’s a hell of a thing to admit publicly.
I’d say even more concerning is rogue Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, along with help of Belarus and possibly NK on a full scale war against NATO. Trump is dumb, but not that dumb to be attacking WITH Russia, since it would be much easier to claim some uninhabited Russian land full of natural resources compared to rather populated European countries without that much natural resources.
They could attack NATO tomorrow, if they so desired. It would be a bloodbath, but an attack nonetheless.
Attack with what? All the rusted metal hulks and organic fertilizer they’ve left strewn across eastern Ukraine?
Honestly, no it couldn’t. That’s not a credible threat. And it’s not just about materiel losses. They sent most of their trainers to the front lines a few years ago. You… just don’t do that. It makes it impossible to regenerate your forces.
As long as no one gives them the idea that a hostile occupation is sustainable in perpetuity, we’ll be fine.
And 1B drones.
According to what ? Credible défense I’m sure
