I would be happy if more and normal people were actually mad at ai.
Normal people are losing themselves in AI. I’ve seen multiple instances of people using LLM to fact check someone. Endless “uhh, but I asked ChatGPT and it said blablabla” making me lose faith in humanity.
Yeah it’s become impossible to have philosophical discussions, although this truly does seem limited to the virtual world (i.e. via text, online, etc.). If I were to go have some drinks with a friend and they busted out some LLM to take part in our discussion I would chastise them endlessly for it.
Honestly its not much different from a google search and reading some nonsense written by someone who has no authority in the subject. As long as it reinforces their belief itll be true in their eyes
Notepad++ is just, a top tier app
TBH, tech companies showing AI down our throats is still no good, open-source alternative existing or not.
DRM wasn’t good either, tech companies are just really creative at making their products worse.
Some FOSS software has been adding gen-AI to itself recently, particularly where it requires you to get an API key from Gemini, OpenAI or Claude.
I’m chill with the amount of ai duckduckgo has, because its not in your face and it can be easily disabled.
Yeah but duckduckgo has loads of adds now, too
at least its not more than Google
People are allowed to want what they’re comfortable with to not be riddled with llms
I was going to suggest Zed but it has Ai as well now
They don’t shove it in your face though, they just offer a possibility of integrating AI through external services.
A button for AI in Notepad as seen in the image doesn’t seem like shoving in your face either
Modern computing is a steaming pile of other horse’s horseshit in my living room
i’m still mad at np++ for the version that supported the french media outlet that was an attack victim. not for that but for sneaking in an auto-typing text tab that looked SO MUCH like a virus especially since it was not in the original release notes.
Yeah the dev is notorious for sneaking in irrelevant political virtue signaling bullshit. I get that they want to do good to the world, but there are so many ways to do that without alienating your users. For example, partnering up with a charity. You know. Like VIM does.
It’s all fun and games until ai is mad at you
What if the open source software is forcing people to see AI?
Fork!
Fork people who come up with it right in the hand.
Comment it out
That’s the neat thing about open source: you can change it!
It’s like the difference between renting and owning. When you rent, you can’t really do much. If you own, if you don’t like the wall color, paint it! Or tear it down, or DON’T replace the carpets! Or take a hammer and put holes in the wall to see what’s inside.
And, because it’s digital, you can make a million copies or delete them! It’s like a holodeck! You do what you want. It serves you!
