I really dislike it when people slather AI upscalers onto images for no reason. Very rarely does it improve the perceived quality of the image, most of the time it just changes your reaction from “wow, this is a low-res photo” to “wow, someone tried upscaling this low-res photo”. Here it somehow made the image even worse

Yeah, what’s up with that? At first I thought it was a weird camera/filter, but the more I look the worse it gets. What are those… powerlines? in the background on the right? Why are they next to a building/tree hybrid? What is the flamingo looking thing behind him? What logo is on his cap? Am I paranoid!?

Damn, sounds impressive! The experience that inspired this meme for me was swapping the buttons in my mouse for newer ones from a dead donor mouse, which admittedly took much less than 2 hours haha

I don’t mean “redditor” as in a literal reddit user, but as a general insult. The type of person that has nothing better to do than to convince elementary schoolers that apple cores are poisonous… which they are, but not enough to be dangerous. And being pedantic about that sort of technicality is what makes someone a “redditor” to me.

Protip: while the “in one bite” part might be challenging, nobody is stopping your from eating your apples completely, including the core. It’s as tasty as the rest of the apple, and the stuff about apple seeds being dangerously poisonous is just some bullshit made up by redditors. Be free! Eat the core!

This reminds of how when the unicode consortium had to add flag emojis, instead of opening the can of worms on what countries are independent or not, they just noped out of it and let the implementers decide which combinations of regional indicator letters render as country flags.

A lot of people seem to think that all ai art is low effort garbage, which is just not true. There can be a lot of skill put into crafting the correct prompt to get the image you want from an image generator, not to mention the technical know-how of setting it up locally. The “ai art is not art” argument to me doesn’t sound any more substantiated than “electronic musicians aren’t musicians, go learn a real instrument” or “photographers aren’t really artists, all they do is push a button”. But regardless, I agree that we need good tagging, or as @ThatWeirdGuy1001 said, different communities. Even though the output looks similar, actually drawing things and wrangling prompts are two completely different skillsets, and the way we engage with the artistic product of those skills is completely different. You wouldn’t submit a photo you took to a watercolor painting contest. Same with ai art and non-ai art.

Anyway, just thought i’d share my opinion as an ai non-hater.

Gaming consoles made sense back in the day before home computing took off, and for a while they actually had superior hardware than computers when it came specifically to running games. But nowadays gaming consoles are just locked down user-hostile computers with a subscription service attached. The gaming equivalent of inkjet printers. It’s an industry made irrelevant by advancements in technology, propped up by misleading marketing and artificial hype that sadly many people fall for.

I just have a pair of hiking boots that I wear indoors. I have them laced up very loose so that I can just pull them on without undoing the laces, almost like slippers. They’re very warm and comfy.

I mean that’s just the theoretical power from adding up all of the PSU ratings. Actual power is less, since it’s just the video cards working, optimized for hashes per watt (i.e. not maximum power), and most of the time it would be two or one computer running, since the others would be away from their desk or playing games or doing something important

My old housemates were the opposite lol. We tried saving every penny on heating costs. In the winter, we taped the windows over with cardboard for better insulation (they are old single-pane windows), and fashioned an automatic door closer from an elastic cord to keep the door into the living room shut (our “warm zone”). Instead of using gas heating, we mined ETH with our gaming PC’s (this was before ethereum went proof-of-stake). Between the three of us, the total energy output was close to 2kW, so totally viable for keeping the living room warm. Pretty sure we ended up earning money from heating the house lol.
