On Lake Livingston in Texas when I was a kid there was one of the roads that went through the valley before it was a lake and was still there. Jsut went straight into the lake. Centerline was still painted on it. It was being used as a boat rampbut I was always surprised I never heard about anyone driving straight into the lake there. At theat time the GPS did show it still as a road straight through the lake which is weird because the lake was made well before GPS existed.

Looks like now they added some artificial land and made a proper boat ramp. I think it was old 190, apparently if you have sonar you can follow the road to the old path of the river and find the old truss bridge still under there.

In the summer, at night, we’re facing the galactic center. You can see the cloud of uncountable stars held close to the supermassive black hole at the center, and you can see the band of light spanning the sky that it the rest of the disk and arms.

It’s the reason the galaxy is called the Milky Way, because those billions of stars looks kinds like somebody spilled milk all across the night sky.

If you are in the darkest parts of the world I think you can still see it a bit in winter but you’re looking outward into intergalactic space, so it’s much fainter, only showing the stars in our arm that are even further out.

I was ready to see the Milkyway in Colorado a few years back but there was wildfire smoke covering the sky the entire time I was there.

I did get to see it just a bit in Arkansas last year(it really wasn’t as dark as I’d have liked it). I was doing some long exposures with a camera and my mom says “Wow it’s a pretty clear night except for that one cloud…”

I generally don’t do it with Semis though, and I probably don’t get as close as the people you’re thinking of. If I’m on a long trip I’ll ushally try to find a fifth wheel camper going roughly the speed I want and I’ll set my adaptive cruise to the minimum distance. The campers throw fewer rocks.

Also if you’re ever drafting make sure to keep an eye on your temperature. Most of the time it should be fine but a hot day and going uphill it could very easily overheat, especially if you’ve done some of the other hypermilling mods like partial grille block.

Yeah I also don’t understand how it’s a barrier. Unless I’m thinking of the wrong thing I know some people who had to get a letter of credit when getting some service at their new property in order to not have to pay some equipment deposit. As private individuals (although commercial property with no history of income), it took them a phone call, 2 emails and about 30 minutes to get one.

I really can’t see any small ISP that isn’t some scheme having trouble getting one.

Also windows now just hates running on spinning drives and will get the 100% disk useage issue, the only fix I’ve found is swapping to an SSD. HDDs are pretty much only useable as secondary drives now.

I’ve only done solar + battery setups on RVs and found 8kWh to be the probably the minimum if you have to run the AC at 100% duty cycle. Realistically at night that probably won’t happen but I haven’t had a chance to test the current one where I’ll actually he doing that with a kill-a-watt to get a real world number.
