Huh. That’s “30 Flights of Loving” in the thumbnail. A very weird, short game I never thought I’d see again. I think I got it in a Humble Bundle many years ago.
Can anyone tell me how these vehicles are getting my data out of the car and into the hands of Toyota, or whoever, if I don’t use their app and never connect the vehicle to any networks?
I imagine the dealerships could probably pull my info out of the car when I take it in for a checkup, but outside of that I can’t think of how my data is getting offloaded.
Not trying to be a turd, I’m genuinely curious
Also teens aren’t really known for being the most rational or making good decisions. In many ways they’re still learning about the world. Comparing their overall capability to adults’ is kind of weird to me
It was never about productivity. It was always about control.
Out governor also vetoed a state-wide ridesharing bill earlier this year. The title includes none of the nuance, and a lot of inflammatory language. Reads like clickbait to me
Inb4 “if you only want to work for 4 of 5 days then you must only want 80% pay and oh by the way we still expect you to come in all 5 days anyways because corporate culture or something.”
Clickbait title.
In his veto message, Frey wrote he “secured a commitment from Uber” that drivers picking up passengers in Minneapolis or driving within the city will make the city’s minimum wage of $15 an hour. The company also committed to paying Uber drivers at least $5 for any trip in the metro area.
Thinking Fast and Slow has a lot of really good info but man does it go on.
You might also like Behave by neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky if you haven’t already read it. It’s another book which explains a lot of why we are the way we are. Very interesting read; lengthy but still compelling.
When I read Infinite Jest the first time I was in college I was dealing with a lot of “life’s crossroads” type issues, some of which I didn’t even know about until I looked back on them. The book helped me understand that I needed to stop relying on my “innate” talents and privileges and actually start putting in work for the things I wanted if I was ever going to have a hope of a good life. It also put into perspective a lot of substance use/abuse stuff in a really subtle way that ended up being very beneficial to me.
Now, on my second reading, there is none of the profound and personal wisdom present in the text. It is an enjoyable read, but for completely different reasons. I guess that first read was kind of just a “right place, right time” scenario for me.
2 years ago I read Divergent Mind by Jennara Nerenberg and it completely changed my perspective on the mental care industry and revealed, with studies and statistics, how women are systematically underserved when it comes to medical issues (both physical and mental). After reading that book it was like a big empathy door was kicked open in my brain that had been shut my whole life, and I suddenly started understanding some of the deep context behind the experiences of women in my life that I was previously never aware of.
There is no good way to outpace calorie consumption with activity. It is far far easier for humans to consume usable calories than it is for us to spend them.
In our ancestors this meant that we were able to go a long time between good meals during times of scarcity and still survive, but today it just means that if you’re worried about calories you should start in the kitchen, not the gym

The recalls cover certain 2023 and 2024 Hyundai Palisades, as well some 2023 Tucson, Sonata, Elantra and Kona vehicles. Affected Kias include the 2023 Soul and Sportage as well as some 2023 and 2024 Seltos vehicles.

The article does indicate that animals were sensitive to the noises:
“It did have its flaws: people found that jingling keys or coins could be picked up by the TV’s microphones and accidentally change the channel, and the high-pitch frequencies from the remote were discernible by pets.”
I don’t know where else to go.
The best thing about reddit for me was an endless stream of information and news propped up by user discussion. I rarely just scrolled endlessly through posts; I loved delving into comments on posts which didn’t even interest me at face value to see what I could learn from niche communities.
It was, hands down, the best, most information dense landscape I’ve ever seen and frankly I feel a little lost without it. I hope that some day, some where I can find something similar.
Not just porn! Since reddit only has one such tag you can apply to posts, many subreddits were using the NSFW tag for a wider variety of reasons such as spoilers, content which may contain unsettling material (aka “triggers”), and more!
I saw a post about a community created here called “pixel passport” which I thought was a hell of a lot better that “earth porn.”
While I understand what you’re getting at, users can be viewed as “the product” if they are contributing content (posts, comments, votes, and other forms of engagement) and “the customer” if they are consuming this content in any way.
Without content or readers there would be no Lemmy, just like for Wikipedia with no editors or readers there would be no purpose for that site either. The terms “product” and “customer” aren’t intrinsically related to monetary value.
Most office centers these days pipe in low-dB white noise to mitigate some of the chaotic noises of office work. Unfortunately if you’re the kind of person with a neurodivergence that makes you sensitive to sensory overload this could be one of the reasons office spaces make you feel so exhausted 😃
