Remember when tap-to-pay was new and didn’t work at a lot of places and some people were freaked out over it?
And now most of us use it without a 2nd thought.
I speculate passkeys will be like that.

Written by the assistant to the manager, no doubt.
Tariffs hurt America. The messaging is that simple.
Watch as we fuck up the messaging.
Same as you. I used to game a lot (too much) in my younger days. Now I use the computer to support my tabletop gaming hobbies, 3d printing, a little coding, and streaming.
NAPS2. I go paperless as much as possible, but still have to scan stuff sometimes. It’s the GOAT for scanning.
People are struggling to pay rent and buy groceries. Entertainment will always be the first thing to cut.
I’m an avid indoorsman. One of my best friends is too, fortunately. I almost never get cabin fever (though it does happen).
Winters for me feels like home turf. My favorite activity is tabletop gaming with friends. When I can’t do that, I love reading books and watching videos. Occasionally I’ll play Steam games, but I spent enough of my youth on that, so it’s way down the list of choices.
I also like to try out new recipes. I’m a better cook than baker, but I do some of both. And I really enjoy playing with our two dogs. They teach the stupid human how to be in the moment.
I’m a boring but happy guy when left in peace.
I had similar thoughts. Someone more knowledgeable would probably call them “healthcare professionals”, or “healthcare practitioners”, not “doctors and nurses”.
And you’re right, as important as they are, they can’t do their jobs without the infrastructure you’re pointing out. Power and water are more essential, as they enable everyone all of the time. And waste piling up would create serious problems fairly quickly.
This reminds me of the Silo series, where every level thinks they keep the Silo running.
Boot scrapers.
Coathooks, drawer handles, book ends, door stops, gardening or tent stakes.
I mostly agree. I do miss some niche communities, though.
When you forget to allow the druid into Leomund’s Tiny Hut.
Dredge players: I need those!
The world would be a better place if we could replace every corporate climber type with this guy.
Paid an electrician to fish ethernet for me from my utility closet where the router is to my home office. Was well worth the expense. WiFi is great, and I use it for all the other devices in the house. But I work from home most days, and I got tired of the random slow-downs and drops.
Figuring out how to automate them, when possible. Coding / scripting / debugging is more fun than tedious manual tasks, IMO.
I’m not an expert in political philosophy by any measure, but I kind of feel like lemmy.world is a small case study in the pros and cons of realpolitik.
I refuse to use Meta, and I block their various URLs in my home. Friends and family complain and give me grief about it. It’s astonishing how much of a creep Zuck is, and yet he’s got his hooks in deep, and some people are still addicted to his garbage.
Interesting, I didn’t know it costs extra in some places. TIL.
