If the shuttle didn’t exist, there are still a thousand things that would have had to go in a different direction to get a viable Mars program in the 80s and 90s. Not the least of which being that without the shuttle, and before the ISS, we would have no CLUE how to actually live in space for long periods of time.

So if we take it that we can’t go to Mars without learning how to live in space for extended durations. And we take it that in order to learn how to live in space we need to have a long duration presence there, like the ISS.

For me, I was working for a telecommunications provider as a manager and was told that neither myself nor my staff would see any raises or bonuses that year because “the company didn’t make any money.”

The kicker being that the company made 6 billion that year. But because the money counters had projected them to make 7 Billion, and they didn’t hit it, giving out raises would make the stock price drop even more than it was already going to. Essentially, not enough profit, is the same as NO profit.

But you better believe the CEO and executives got their bonus that year.

I was an archaeology major, hence the history thing. And I’m fascinated by the psychology of crime.

I was already starting to have problems a month or so ago. Ended up switching even though I had paid for no ads. Using Connect; same routine…pay for no ads. So far it’s been great.

Teenagers. Just ship 'em off somewhere between the ages of 13 and 18. Pouty, Self-entitled, disrespectful shits.

Raise a group of a dozen newborns with absolutely zero contact outside of their own group. Food and necessities get provided of course, but no language learning, no nurturing, no generational teaching.

What kind of community do they form when they are old enough to grasp such things? Do they develop their own language; or a different method of communication entirely. How do they stratify their society, or even do they?

At a certain point, when they are old enough, introduce challenges that only work if they cooperate with one another. See what happens.

I’m far far far from a younger consumer, and I find that I too have moved almost entirely to online content, mostly in the form of True Crime podcasts and YT channels, History Documentaries, etc…

Especially in non-fiction content, there’s pretty much nothing that paid TV can offer that Social Platforms cannot. It’s the only place where I think this whole internet experiment is actually working as intended; the democratization of knowledge.

I seem to recall there being a similar exclave in the east, Ontario or Manitoba or something. I remember it from COVID times but can’t remember its name.

The powers-that-be don’t give a shit about your meaningless protests. March as much as you want. Hold as many signs as you want. That only works when the people making the decisions actually care about what you think of them and actually worry about whether or not you will vote for them in the next election.
