You are more likely to learn about Christianity from an atheist than a Christian
They think they benefit from the controlling systems and preserve their “right” to punch down on others. The same toxic patterns in many families, sports, frats, military, most supernatural groups and authoritarian politicians. All hierarchal, conditional belonging, stuck in dualism, obey those above until it’s your turn to punch down.
That is unhealthy and the real truth does set us free from all that nasty baggage, transcend the ego and actualize in this life. The harder path is to have real courage and integrity in life, critical thinking and not just do as told and conform for conditional belonging. It’s easier to stay in dualism as told and repeat the tribal indoctrination.
The inversion of values What’s presented as virtue: obedience, conformity, and shame-based compliance, is actually corrosion of the self. And what’s demonized: questioning, autonomy, authentic desire, is what genuine integrity requires.
This is the deepest form of control because it colonizes a person’s moral sense. You internalize shame not for doing harm, but for being yourself. You learn to call your own suppression “goodness.” The system doesn’t have to force you anymore; you police yourself.
Yeah, because Christian Nationalism has never been about Christianity, it’s about ethnic cleansing. They just wrapped their message in religion to make it more palatable.
It’s the response to be expected with the arrival of thousands of Muslim refugees; Islamic fundamentalists encourage Christian fundamentalists, and they all fuel each others fervor.
Abrahamics all share the same bloodthirsty hateful core, all inspired (and even commanded) by the Bible and Koran. Violence is the fundamental, intractable result.
(and both of these faiths are unfathomably wealthy, yet we still must pay their share of taxes)
People who identify as Christians are usually hypocrites. The majority are Christian in name only and only go to church on special occasions and maybe not even then. Most of them know very little about the Bible and actually reading the Bible is what turns people to atheism. I’m not sure I believe that there is anyone on earth who genuinely believes that the Bible is 100% factual and the word of God. it would be a terrifying thing to actually believe given how evil and inconsistent the God portrayed in the Bible is. People who claim to believe it pick and choose and make excuses for the parts they don’t like
I appreciate some religious people trying to distance themselves from the shitty ones, really, I do.
But people who do stuff that isn’t normal for a thing that only they believe in or know about still really shakes my faith in the social contract with them.
Add on to that that the bad people share the same beliefs makes predicting when evil behavior or shadowy fucked up evil behavior is gonna happen really difficult.
And then finally, that bad stuff happens overwhelmingly often from the people that believe that stuff… I have a hard time not believing they’re all bad. I know they probably aren’t, but the vast majority of them have been hostile and crazy and freak me out and I just stay away because I don’t need to deal with that and it’s just easier and safer for me to avoid them and warn others like me.
No offense, religgies. ✌️ 🕊️
My holy book says “you can rape the children of your enemy” and “beat your wife and your kids, but try not to do it too much” and “everyone else will suffer more than the human mind can conceive”
But I only practice that last one.
IMO, does not make someone “one of the good ones”, and I hope they take it to heart that I think they are no better than the overtly murderous and racist ones. Because they are separated but by the width of a hair from the pocket-foreskin of their savior.
I do try, yet struggle, with differentiating in nuance. I think it’s important to see the good in people, as well as the problems.
I don’t think I have exactly a utilitarian world view, but there’s definitely some aspects of that in my judgement in certain questions.
I used to be that way. Then I saw that the “good in people” who are able to “ignore the bad stuff” in that book, doesn’t change the fact that they are bombs that simply don’t happen to be exploding right now.
If you change to one of their “triggers” or if they begin to see you or the world in a way that triggers their religious fervor, they can pivot to being the horrors in an instant.
I hope you never have to watch the eyes of a loved one who’s always seemed to have a very good heart, glaze over as they switch gears to “you’re the devil and no action is off the table to ‘cleanse’ you”. Because they all have that switch. Every single one of them.
