The one on the right can still have the boot’s tab slip under the plug’s tab, preventing the plug’s tab from being physically depressed far enough to release the plug from the socket.

It’s there so the little plastic tab that keeps the Ethernet cable plugged in doesn’t break easily.
Because honestly, those little plastic tabs are a shit design for keeping something important plugged in.
