Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that greatness can pay to mediocrity.
It’s almost so perfect I’d guess they named the show 28 years ago just so they could pull this off today.
so perfect
Really? “Perfect?”
Honest question: why does everyone seem so impressed with this?
It’s sobering to think they are pretty close to the Thomas Paines of our time.
Let’s not glaze them too hard. South Park’s “both sides” bullshit, “giant douche or turd sandwich” politics and “ManBearPig” habit of treating earnest concern as proof that you were the sucker went a long way to convincing a generation or two of young men that cynically sneering at sincerity and being intellectual lazy is really very principled. I say this as a fan, but they realized FAR too late that the stakes were real, and there is a strong argument to be made that the US wouldn’t be where it is right now if not for Parker and Stone.
Yikes, if I glazed you just gave them the Marilyn manson/Columbine shooting treatment. A strong argument that the US wouldn’t be where it was if not for South Park? C’mon.
They’re at their best when others are nervous or scared or intimidated to approach a subject.
A strong argument that the US wouldn’t be where it was if not for South Park? C’mon.
Oh for fuck sake… Why, because they took LSD and wore dresses to the Emmys or whatever the fuck? They have affected absolutely no valuable change whatsoever.
The show is funny sometimes, but the satire has done nothing of value. Ever.
If anything, they’ve made things worse by mocking Al Gore and "both sides"ing literal fucking fascists
JD will need a bucket o’ rags

Wow, that’ll really show them!
I’ll never understand the blind worship these dudes get.
Millions of people come out to protests and it’s “not enough”, and everyone has a criticism. “Why bother if you’re just going to schedule it for a few hours of a Saturday and then go home?”, “you Americans never actually do anything beyond performance.” Etc.
Meanwhile, two multimillionaire Libertarian douchebags make the lamest most toothless fucking “statement”, and everyone here trips over themselves to jerk them off and give them some kind of credit.
Like Jesus Christ people, they haven’t actually done a single fucking thing.
It’s not even good satire. Like let’s break it down for a moment (I know, that’s how you ruin jokes, but I don’t think we need to worry much with this one): how does changing their name to add “America” to it do anything to mock, berate, etc. Trump?
I’m sorry but, “hahaha look, we can add the word ‘America’ to the title like you! Isn’t that funny?” just doesn’t cut it for me satire-wise. To a narcissist like Trump, this is basically a compliment.
And it’s kind of crazy to see so many otherwise intelligent -seeming people line up to suck them off over this.
Go read A Modest Proposal and lament at how far our satire skills have fallen.
These are two men with obscene amounts of money, and we’re praising them for this?
Talk about low standards.
Edit: here why not. A Modest Proposal - Jonathan Swift. Written in 1729

Lol rereading this for the first time in like 15 years… This part made me lol
I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children.
Fucking savage.
there are more children born in Roman Catholick countries about nine months after Lent, than at any other season; therefore, reckoning a year after Lent, the markets will be more glutted than usual, because the number of Popish infants, is at least three to one in this kingdom, and therefore it will have one other collateral advantage, by lessening the number of Papists among us.
LOL
This is what I’m talking about… Compare this to “hurr durr the show is called ‘South America’ now get it?”
I think the low standards result from the fact that, unlike Bush-era satire, Trump is pretty close to being ignored except for the last season of South Park. During the Bush era, every cartoonist and satirist was falling over themselves to highlight Bush’s shittery, such that the current media world in comparison is a defaening silence. And it would be wonderful for things like this to lead to Trump becoming the joke Dubya was by the end of his shitshow.
I am sure the chief orange pedo will approve.
