It sounds impressive to people who aren’t in the field. Like “scientist” or “doctor”. You might be really dumb but when you drop that title it tends to catch attention, warranted or not.
Why would you lie about being an engineer? Or he is an engineer and tried to say he wasn’t?
People lie about their credentials and accomplishments on the internet all the time. I would know, I have a master’s degree in internet lies.
