To be honest, I think the Amish might be on to something. If we could create a sect that stopped at '90s tech, I’d be tempted to convert.
Cory Doctorow explained in one of his articles that the Amish don’t avoid technology indiscriminately, they weigh the harm against the use. His example was that it’s bad when electronic communication replaces face-to-face contact, but it’s no good either if you can’t call a vet when your cow falls ill.
I was like “wow what a reasoned take, I like cory doctorow for basically everything he says”. Then I read your username and almost did a spit take. Lol
Amish communities can have phones if they vote for it amongst themselves. The one I saw was a community landline. They had just one in a little shed along the driveway.
Yeah, my understanding is that typically a shopkeeper or someone like that might have an old-style cell dumbphone, without the Facebooks and stuff.
Damn. I wish I were Amish.

You… you think that wasn’t around back then?
In the 90s you just waited longer for one pic.

Not to mention magazines found in the forrest.

Mennonites wild be the closest but that entirely depends on the community.
I’m proud to say I don’t know who that is… 😉
If she’s about to shun she’s possibly a Mennonite.
