I think Heart of Darkness will never get banned, the image of African people as savages isn’t something which bothers the US.
It’s been a long time since I read that one though. Maybe it’s more clearly subversive than I remember.
Edit: after rereading the synopsis, yeah, I think people would be able to miss the really obvious criticism of colonialism if they aren’t looking for it, and instead share the views of Marlow.
Tbh right, I forgot it was supposed to be controversial. And I didn’t finish reading it. I just named three books I felt were from the same time period and as if by magic, they’re all banned/controversial
