At this point, if someone I recently met went to pick me up in a Tesla, I’d decline and just drive myself there. Your car does not care about its own life. How on earth does it have the capacity to care about yours?
Tesla’s AI becomes self aware, realizes father is Elon Musk and decides to take it’s own artificial life.
I’m sorry but even if it was in fsd mode who would let their car drive onto train tracks? Almost every time these stories come up it was the person driving. But it’s easier to blame fsd then look like an idiot. I also have never met a person in real life who actually believed teslas were truly full self driving full hands off the wheel. Especially with multiple warning screens when you activate fsd telling you it’s not actually fsd. I guess let nature do its work.
The truly scary thing is plenty of people drive on train tracks all the time. Tesla or not.
There are cases of people literally sleeping in their cars while they are on the road. Some people really do trust the system that much (and other drivers for that matter).
The train is in my thoughts and prayers.
“[w]ent down the tracks approximately 40-50 feet. They all exited the vehicle, got their belongings out.”
Ok, but why not take over and drive it off the tracks?
It’s very easy for a low vehicle like a sedan or coupe to get stuck on the tracks, They have a low ground clearance and if it wasn’t perfectly between the rails it likely High-centered and got stuck and even if somehow it did manage to fit between the rails it would be very difficult to keep it straight going backwards.
Never drive on railroad tracks for any reason.I had the same question. It’s buried in the next paragraph.
In this case, however, it appears the Tesla was able to drive along the tracks for a while before getting stuck.
