Had this happen at work today and my colleagues looked at me like I was a madman for tying both shoes again, instead of just the one that got loose. But doing both shoes again just makes more sense, because you ensure both shoes are equally tight again.
Am I just weird for doing this?
I usually start off intending to only retie, then I walk around for a bit, get annoyed, and do the other one.
Your strategy of accepting the inevitable makes more sense which is why I will promptly forget it.
This is almost the exact reply I was about to write.
The difference is that if I was in a hurry to do something right before it came loose I will only tie the one, and go back for the other one the time pressure was over.
But that’s probably true for all of us, so kinda redundant.
What’s your job?
I do this too, but only after a few years of IT where I learned that if one thing breaks it’s counterpart would soon break so might as well fix/replace while I’m working on the original problem.
I’m a chef, so being able to walk around comfortably is a must for me. Even a slight difference in tightness will annoy me like hell
Ehh… I’ll give the other one a tug to make sure it isn’t loose. But I’m not going to untie and retie it unless I have to.
Sorry, you’re the weirdo.
you buy shoes without laces. last couple pairs of shoes I’ve had have had no laces and it’s really nice
Step 1: get Blundstones for work and never worry about laces again!
Otherwise, I only tie the affected shoe unless it’s clear that the unaffected one is compromised.
Please tell me you didn’t start with the untied lace. If I saw you notice one of your shoes were untied and you started by un/retying the other one first I would immediately and permanently be convinced you were, or are about to become, a serial killer.
Oh gawd no! Saw someone say they never thought about tying both shoes before in the comments here, but doing that would never have occurred to me. Yeah, you really must be a psychopath to do that.
Wh-what kind of question is this? I’m not a Replicant, I swear!
Why retie the second and not just tighten?
How does one do that? Without being more difficult than just doing it again
??? Just give the bows a tug? Takes one second
I would definitely never own shoes with laces! Slip on shoes only for me!
I kinda have to get good work boots if I wanna get through a day of running around in a kitchen. No laces for me in my free time either.
I also like my shoes to be tied evenly tightly, but I can do it without having to retie both shoes.
Normally just the one, if I’m skateboarding or snowboarding I’ll do them both.
Fun fact! IME, most people learned to tie their shoes incorrectly. Myself included.
If you know your knots, I learned to tie my shoes with a “Granny” knot. If you tie your shoes with a square knot, your shoe lace problems are vastly reduced.
There’s lots of discussion on this around this as well as additional shoe tying improvements.
I just learned about this from another post a month or so ago and since I changed the way I tie my shoes, they have never gotten loose or untied. I can’t believe I went my whole life tying my shoes wrong!
