I’ve been using a 3rd party client to access posts on Lemmy. I loved the experience back when Reddit allowed 3rd party apps. But I felt the feed was a bit…one sided.
I figured it was just because I was new to Lemmy, but then I sorted posts by New.
Nothing but trans anime porn. It’s like the only people that came to Lemmy were the people that got kicked out of Reddit circles because all they could think about was trans anime porn.
Maybe I signed up on the wrong instance? But I don’t think that’s the problem.
How are so many people trying to treat Lemmy as a balanced alternative to Reddit?
What the fuck?!
Not sure what’s up with your feed, but mine is… not that.
OP’s comment history is full of antagonism and bad takes. So many of their comments have exclamation points!!! I have a feeling they’re a bit lost on things and/or they don’t want to admit to the means by which they are seeing this content that they claim to be repulsed by. Blocking is free, and I suggest doing to major sources of bad vibes.
It’s been months since I blocked all the individual instances that post things like that, I never see it. But yeah not surprised it’s still there. Lemmy blocklists should be a thing, would make the new user experience much more endurable. Last I checked I have over 800 communities blocked and dont miss any of them.
I make liberal use if the Lemmy feature of blocking users/communities/instances.
I noticed the same thing as you—so much kinky shit when browsing All. I mostly don’t care what gets people off but I don’t need to see it in my feed. Eventually, I found that it was easiest to block entire instances where that stuff is prevalent. It’s not like you’ll miss anything important.
Same with communities and users. If I know a community isn’t going to interest me, I block it from All. If a user bothers me enough that I recognize the name, I block them.
It’s just better this way. You’re not missing much by blocking. Your time and attention is better spent on the things that matter to you.
Honestly, it’s kind of obnoxious that you’re inundated with porn by default in “all”. I mean, it’s fine if people are into that, but it’s not necessarily what every user wants to deal with blocking when the are a new user. Some might just erroneously assume the whole platform is just a porn site and leave if that isn’t what they want. I have blocked a shitton of porn communities because I’m not interested in that, but there are a hell of a lot of them. I’m glad instance blocking became a thing because prior to that I had a zillion communities blocked.
Would just nice for the default to be different is all. I get why some people are immediately super turned off by using Lemmy because of stuff like that.
Again, I’m not trying to say porn is necessarily bad, but it’s a bit jarring when that’s not what you came here for and when it’s not what the platform is “advertised” as. It’s like if Grandma tries to join Facebook to stay connected to people but when she first logs in there’s just porn all over her feed. Obviously that doesn’t happen there. I’m just trying to paint a picture.
Does lemmy have a block limit? Reddit does. I hit it.
Mine isn’t that way at all. My feed is always set to “All”, and it’s a diverse range of discussions.
Your feed is what you click on OP….
There was a yiff.net or something instance that I had to block when I first joined. It wasn’t really that popular I think it just had bots posting furry stuff from deviantart. It’s not that hard to clean up your feed.
I’ll be completely honest, i have read a decent number of people say they have the same issue with Lemmy, tons and tons of porn.
My experience has been vastly different. I occasionally have some nudes posts pop up but only about once a month at most. It very rarely is more than top less and is never hard-core or kinky.
I don’t know what I did to seemingly make my experience this way.
Mine is not that. There was lots of porn, hentail, and tranny nudes showing in new at first, but I blocked those communities, its been good since.
Edit, sorry my bad the group w as Transy not Tranny
My bad, the groups was transy not tranny
Yeah, unless you’re talking about transmissions pulled out and leaking fluid allll over the pavement like a dirty, dirty power transfer whore, tranny isn’t an ideal word choice nowadays. Which, if you’re using some of that sexy, slippery fluid to pleasure yourself while flipping through c/hotmopartrannies, carry on.
It was never exactly a good word to use, though it wasn’t as widely known that it was predominantly used in a derogatory manner back in the eighties and early nineties when it got more common in usage.
But nowadays, the only people that use it regularly are bigots, so if you aren’t one, and you use it, chances are that people will assume the worst, what with the worst often being the case.
But, you know, if you’ve got any pics of a Muncie m20 just sitting around, you know, maybe don’t Bogart that shit
It wascallyed something Tranny. Edit: my bad it was Transy not tranny
Ahhhh, gotcha.
