Recently stopped caring about removing the shells on shrimp and I just eat them with the shell on.
Does anyone else do this?
No it’s gross
Yes I do
i knew a guy making a million a year by buying shrimp shells from a food processor for practically nothing and grinding them into dust and selling them as protein powder for gym dudes for $40/bottle.
twitches in FDA
It’s got the Cadmium bodies crave.
I mean, would it work as protein powder?
it is protein, and it sold like crazy. i cant speak to it being a good idea or quality.
I’m always worried about cutting my tongue on the shells, though that worry mainly surfaces when eating sushi. They can be sharp, and the tongue does not seem like a fun place for a paper cut.
Just due to texture alone, shrimp and other crustacean shells are a hard pass for me.
It never occurred to me that the shells would be edible. I mean, I don’t eat clam or oyster shells.
They can be used for flavoring but I would not eat the shells.
I suspect it’s like eating your fingernails or hair.
But, tactical dot!
I have been encouraged/peer pressured to eat shrimp with the tails on. I declined and ripped them off.
I, too, many years ago got tired of the process of removing shells and now just crush 'em shell on. It’s been about a decade and no issues thus far.
I don’t, because it would require a trip to the hospital. Ain’t allergies fun?
But they’re not exactly easy to digest anyway, and how they’re cooked matters to the people I know that do eat them
No. I did switch to eating larger shrimp so there’s less work involved.
There are ways of cooking shrimp that break the shell down to the point that it’s more like crispy salmon skin.
That’s kinda when I said ascrew it and just ate the shell. It was some Chinese style shrimp with the heads still on. Took the head off and my fingers were so messy, I just couldn’t be bothered peeling the whole thing so I just ate it and haven’t stopped since.
For small shrimp yes to save time but for larger shrimps no
