I believe firmly that everyone should have a fair shake and as much freedom as they can be afforded - so long as it does not encroach on the freedoms of others.
40 series Nvidia was still humoring the raster crowd. 50 they are literally providing tools to tell you what your “real” frame rate should be. It’s the same thing companies got burned at the stake for gaming benchmarks. This is what happens when you don’t have enough competition. The industry leader starts selling bullshit quality dives off a cliff.
Movies/Shows Workaround
It is worth mentioning to those who are concerned about the legality of format shifting your media you are free and clear to do so - on any media up through DVD. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, Bluray rips are a “legal” nono … or at very least a gray area. It is unquestionably corpo-bullshit but something you should be aware of.
p.s. legal is only in the title 'cause lemmy world ToS stuff. I have no qualms with sharing, and the gray ways.

To respond though: most people typically don’t need a daily driver knife… and if they do: a pen knife or box cutter is probably sufficient. Generally speaking- the less dangerous things in immediate reach of someone having a breakdown is probably better and likely saves lives.

This may not be a popular response but when did the nazi regime stop? When did China stop with it’s cleansing? America and manifest destiny? I could go on… Humanity needs to realize that we are pretty shitty in general and can’t be trusted when it comes to hatred, entitlement, and tribalism.
The solution is a neutral third party with sufficient power to stop any country’s bullshit through economic and military (actual) peacekeeping… which doesn’t exist nor will it ever.
So the short answer is they will stop when the cleansing is complete.
After the deed is done we as ‘civilized’ nations will lament the tragedy and promise change… until the media cycle washes all those sins down the drain and it will be forgotten until next time.
