This is just another step down “I honestly just can’t comprehend the stupidity of what is going on in the American government”-alley…
Like… what do they even expect to come of this? Why are they even interested in doing it? Is it just to stir up shit?
I’ll never forget the video of a guy in his car literally praying to trump…
Not a guitar player, but I’ve done my fair share of climbing, which is quite punishing to the skin on your fingertips.
My immediate answer is a clear no. The skin on your fingertips adapts very quickly, and hardens within a week or two of being worn down regularly. If anything, you want to make sure that you keep your skin well cleaned (helps it heal faster). Some people have good experience using moisturiser, and say that helps their skin recover more quickly. I’ve also known people who will carefully sand down the skin on their fingertips if it starts getting too hard, or if they haven’t climbed for a while and it starts peeling (usually starts happening after 1-2 weeks of low/no exposure).
Regardless, the rawness of the fingertips is a quickly passing issue for people who have not worn down their fingertips sufficiently in recent time.
You can check out some of these skin products which are designed for climbers. Some are meant to improve skin healing time, and some are supposed to help harden your skin. If you want to use anything, I suggest something like that instead of glue.
Sir, this is a shitpost community.
If I was religious, I probably wouldn’t be too far from thinking that a biblical plague hitting the country every time The Führer was elected was some kind of sign…
I seem to remember seeing a comic about the moment in an RPG shooter game where you walk into an area and notice lots of cover - you know shit’s about to hit the fan.
Looks like Alabama was inspired…
I seem to remember that what the EU did to good effect last time this asshat was president was to place extremely directed tariffs/taxes on specific goods from Trump-friendly areas. Essentially saying “we’re going to toll oranges from this specific county in that specific swing state in order to drive a couple specific producers out of business”, and then did that across the country. The advantage being that WTO agreements allow you to answer tariffs dollar-for-dollar, so you can respond to wide-reaching tolls that amount to X USD (e.g. tolls on the entire European aluminium industry) with extremely hard-hitting tolls on very specific producers.
We should be doing that again. Don’t touch the wider American population, but put all our weight into hitting hard against cornerstone businesses in pro-trump counties. Make them regret voting this guy in thinking it would better their economy.
At this point I have a hard time believing that anyone can buy a Chinese product and then talk about there being a “secret backdoor” in seriousness.
Come on: We all should know by now that if it’s Chinese, there is more likely than not some way for Xi to use it for something other than what you want the product to do. There’s nothing “secret” or “back” about this door. It’s more like an open front gate with landing strips and a “welcome home Pooh bear” sign.
There do of course exist (far too many) people out there that objectify women, but that’s not what this post is about (at least the way I’m reading it). I can definitely relate to the situation where some random woman will do some mundane everyday thing, like put on a purse or let down her hair, and my body just decides to react to that.
It has nothing to do with objectifying women, and of course I don’t make a point out of it, but just push it out of my head and move on with my day. The point of the post is that it’s funny and relatable how the body can just decide to send a puff of hormones around your system as a response to the most mundane things, even though you know that it’s wildly inappropriate. I’m sure you’ve experienced the same thing at some point?
For added effect, read the right-hand side in the voice of a British aristocrat.
I’m just waiting for the moment when a country exposed to “accidental” cable cutting, or attacks using water jets from the Chinese coast guard or similar, just responds by shooting first and asking questions later.
Like: You cut our cables/blocked our atoll from getting resupply, etc… put a 50mm in their face and carry on. Let them do the responding.
“Oh no, they were conducting acts of war and were in our way, so we sank them. What are you gonna do about it? Maybe stop doing that?”
It’s fascinating how people, even without knowing anything about the “why”, just realised that whoever hangs around a lot in those specific areas gets sick, and then they’re able to retain that information for many generations.
One of my favourites from aboriginal oral history I that, apparently, they have a history about how they used to cross to some peninsula over dry land, but that the sea slowly came in and made the area inaccessible. Geologists have found that they’re accurately telling the story of sea level rise that happened around 50 000 years ago, and I seem to remember that they’ve found archaeological evidence that backs the story as it’s been told through generations up to this day.
My wrists though… if I’m using a laptop without peripherals, it’s because I currently don’t have access to peripherals, and need to use the keyboard and trackpad on my laptop…
Looking at the general quality of YouTube videos, and the expected demographic of people that would select this option, this looks like a recipe for creating the most conspiracy-theory-oriented AI ever created.
See, the issue isn’t that they’ve made a bunch of illegal money, it’s that they haven’t made enough illegal money, which means they’re still susceptible to seeing consequences for it.
Watch me: My void*

While I do agree with most of what is said here, I have a hangup on one of the points: Thinking that “docstrings and variable names” are a trustworthy way to indicate types. Python is not a statically typed language - never will be. You can have as much type hinting as you want, but you will never have a guarantee that some variable holds the type you think it does, short of checking the type at runtime. Also, code logic can change over time, and there is no guarantee that comments, docstrings and variable names will always be up to date.
By all means, having good docstrings, variable names, and type hinting is important, but none of them should be treated as some kind of silver bullet that gets you around the fact that I can access __globals__
at any time and change any variable to whatever I want if I’m so inclined.
This doesn’t have to be a bad thing though. I use both Python and C++ daily, and think that the proper way to use Python is to fully embrace duck typing. However that also means my code should be written in such a way that it will work as long as whatever input to it conforms loosely to whatever type I’m expecting to receive.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I believe the peace time professional militaries of most democratic European countries would be dwarfed by the number of people those countries would be able to mobilise in a war time situation.
In the case of Norway, we have a standing army of some 20-30 k soldiers, with a reserve (i.e. peace time civilians with ordinary jobs that have pre-set places to meet up in the case of a conflict) of some 50-70 k soldiers. If shit hits the fan, I wouldn’t be surprised if you could get another 100-200 k to volunteer (at the peak of the cold war I believe we had standing army + reserve of some 500 k). The issue is that we are nowhere close to being able to equip that many soldiers.
That’s just Norway, one of the smallest populations in Europe, and we would likely be able to field 100 k + soldiers within a week or two, with another 100 k following up in the next months, given that we have the equipment for it.
Call me naive, but I honestly believe that people in democratic countries would be willing to enlist if there is a real threat of an autocratic regime invading at taking over. Given that we have sufficient numbers of well trained soldiers to hold out the initial weeks/months and train those mobilised, and sufficient equipment to give the mobilised, I hope that we would be able to put a solid force on its feet relatively quickly.
Also, just the sheer population of Europe (≈ 450 million in the EU) is so much larger that e.g. Russia (≈ 150 million) that we should collectively be able to field several million soldiers as long as we have enough equipment for it, and enough trained personell to train the mobilised. So I definitely think it’s reasonable to focus on building equipment stockpiles in peace time, rather than having huge standing armies.
Let’s get some to Europe as well! You’re welcome here :D
