I’ve had to use it for a week now. It has the most braindead, unintuitive UI I’ve ever seen. Unbelievably inefficient. So much wasted space. Parts that don’t make any sense at all. Notifications are a crap shoot. It crashes during conferences and blows through memory like mad. Whoever signed off on this trash is certifiably insane. Skype was uglyish and clunky but at least it worked.

Crank radio. Survival guide. Poncho. Silver exposure blanket. Fire starters. Multihammer thing. MREs. Good flashlight. Beater laptop like an old x200. Serial console adapter. Flares. Camping stove. Throw it all in a bugout bag after you learn how to use them.

When I was younger I’d frown upon artists making a pop record. Now that I know most working bands often barely scrape by and often get screwed over by labels and promoters, etc., I can’t really fault them for it. And usually they’ll keep making what they want on the side anyway.
The TNT was a beast! I ran it on a k6-2 also. Unfortunately it crapped out and I replaced it with an MX400 which I still have (I have a problem). We all played with a myriad of platforms. One guy was on a friggin’ Alpha that he warmed his feet with under his desk (not sure if he actually played on that but it was a running joke). We also played Quake but for some reason we were obsessed with the silliness of UT. MMMMM MONSTER KILLL.

We played Unreal Tournament mostly because it ran really well on Linux. Rarely had LAN parties but it worked fine over dial-up. Kinda wild. Miss those days. We did a lot of dumpster diving because people would just throw everything out when they left college.
The knockoffs still have the sleeves. I use the toaster oven anyway.
I mostly use my Mac for business stuff, art and coding. The PC spends most of its time on offloaded AI tasks and rendering jobs. It was originally a toy for gaming but I’d rather use my Steam Deck for that now.
Mostly tiny irksome things that cause me to have to set up for calls 10 minutes early because I’m not sure if it’s going to behave and I can’t be “late.” The latest is the window not opening on startup even though it’s running on (MacOS). Restarting resolves. Sometimes it doesn’t do it. No idea why.
Also, minor quibble but I don’t personally like that it seems to follow that annoying UI/UX “we know what’s best for you” philosophy as Gnome does where it only shows you what you “need” to see. I get it, but I’m sorta set in my ways in how I expect UIs to act. If you’re new to it, it’s especially aggravating until you’ve used it for a while.

I noticed when I do volunteer work I look forward to getting my hands dirty and the physical labor involved. I quip to my wife that I’m going to go be a mailman or learn a trade, etc., but I’m semi-serious. 20+ years of ups and downs and it feels like IT is valued in general less and less. Even if a company does everything “right” like the video describes… a lot of companies are still quite toxic to work for overall. It’s compounded by the fact that changing jobs in the field is painful now with multiple interviews required, etc. in a very crowded pool of talent.
Do it. It’s not like it has to be permanent if you end up not liking it.
Just do it. Stop yapping, start doing. The hemming and hawing and trying to be proper about this shit is infuriating. They don’t play by the rules so, fuck it - pull a Brazil and yank the rug out. It worked.
I became unruly at a party. Pretty sure my drink was spiked. My girlfriend at the time dragged me off. Apparently I faceplanted in her apartment trying to take my shoes off while sitting on her bed. Woke up to a big carpet burn on my forehead. It hurt like hell and I was mortified.
My aunt did hostile takeovers and her husband was even more rich. Their kitchen was bigger than my entire house. And that was their vacation house. I couldn’t appreciate most of it, I was just a kid. But I remember my cousin had a pool in his room.
Had to do similar for a micromanager that thought I was lying about my start times. He started calling asking where I was seemingly randomly. Then I saw him driving around one day in the lot swiveling his head around and realized he thought I was clocking in from home. (At the time I’d been occasionally parking about a mile away and hoofing it so my fat ass could get steps in before work. I explained this but he didn’t believe it).
So from then on if I didn’t feel like exercising I’d mark my arrival and hide my car somewhere in the lot behind trailers, a big dumpster, etc. and watch him drive around searching trying to catch me out. Then I’d see him find my car and shake his head. He knew what was up then. He stopped stalking my calendar and me after a couple days of that.
Oop optics are down gotta spin some bullshit that they’ll “forget” they did when flip flopping creates “weak leadership” headlines later. Back and forth.
