  • It is not safe, it will explode, leak poisonous gases, kill everyone and all puppies and kittens, smack Earth out of its orbit into the Sun, and so forth.

Having said that, some 6 months ago I noticed my 2 year old Samsung A71 had a slightly fat back, so after a few months (it was steady, not growing), I took it to a repair shack to have the battery replaced. The guy asked me if the battery was still holding normal charge, and I said yes, a whole day of usage.

He asked me if I wanted to just “deflate” it. Well, yes.

So he did what you said, and the universe is still unharmed.

But in my case it was just gas trapped in the battery envelope; probably it overheated once while charging, but there was little or no damage to the battery itself. If even after passing gas yours is still swolen, it may mean your electrodes are deformed, which is probably more risky than my case.

I’m not in any way recommending you to keep using it. It worked for me, but I’m a very lucky person.

  • That’s sad. I hope these comments are not from fellow Brazilians.

The comparison with the Dominican Republic is even more emblematic, because they started as equals (same island, divided between France an Spain in 1697). There has been no charitable colonizer, but there really seems to be a trend of France being the worst.

Is there a “colonizer” rank, ordered by average HDI of colonized countries?

My guess would be England, Spain, Portugal, then France far behind. (only the longest colonization period counts)

    Edit: I found this: https://www.nber.org/papers/w12546

It is based only on islands though (which includes Hispañola - Haiti/Dominican).

At least for islands, despite the huge GDP gap in Hispañola, the study ranks France above Spain and Portugal!

  • One more interesting feature was the “write lock” switch on the 3.5" ones, a sliding button that covered one of the squared holes on their edges. The floppy drive would sense that and refuse to write on them.

On the 5.25" it was a notch cut on the side (there were punchers for that). To write on a “protected” disk, you’d cover the notch with adhesive tape.

  • It’s the guts of 3.5" floppies, like these, they usually stored 720kB, then 1.44MB, but the latest versions (double sided) were 2.88MB.

The larger one at the bottom is from a 5 1/4" (orange in this picture, the big daddy in the picture is 8", first type I used, with COBOL)

… and now you kids know where the “save” button icon came from.

They were not meant to be removed from their protective envelopes, they’re probably damaged now.

  • What about stupid malice, or maliciously stupid? :-)

Does a bully think being a bully hurts their image?

As an extreme narcissist, he can’t fathom the idea that anything he does can hurt his image. Surrounded by devoted minions, everything he does boosts his ego. He’s mauling Twitter, and thinks this projects a powerful image of himself.

I never liked this guy, I think he’s an narcissistic spoiled brat, but even then I can’t believe he could possibly be so stupid to think that things like throwing away the Twitter brand for “X” make sense.

  • Since he started his act about buying Twitter I saw that as a personal vendetta to harm it - the ultimate tantrum for being mocked at there and not being under his control. He said he’d buy then backed off just to hurt Twitter’s value, but then when he was forced to buy it for the first offer value, he got even more butthurt.

It’s pretty clear that everything he’s done since is to get revenge and destroy it. It’s insane that some people keep praising his decisions towards Twitter as anything but ridiculous.

He’s the rich brat who doesn’t get brown nosed by the waiter in front of his date, then proceed to buy the restaurant just to fire the guy.
