I heard an idea once about making minimum wage 0$ and giving everyone a liveabke UBI. That would mean that nobody is required to participate in the workforce, meaning that employers who can’t afford to pay their workers a good wage would be priced out of the market rather than being able to prey upon peoples need for, y’know, money (which can be exchanged for goods and services). A very appealing idea for a 16 year old boy, and the only issue I see with it now is extreme specialisation in the workforce leading to less competition between different workplaces for similar jobs.
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). It will reduce inflammation and the associated pain. If your pain is not caused by inflammation then you should talk to a pharmacist about what the best analgesic is for you.
Really we should be asking (I want to know) why FEMA invented their own USAR standards instead of adopting the INSARAG ones? Why the US have put so much more money into USAR and not flood and storm response? Surely after Harvey and Katrina, not to mention tornadoes, you’ve learned that having something like Australia’s SESs would provide you with surge capacity of people skilled in storm damage mitigation and flood rescue? I really would like to know
Well, poor black people at least
Like… a water tank?
1 in 1000 year events are poorly named. One because it describes a likelihood, so this storm had a 0.1% chance of occurring in any given year, so we’d expect to see a storm like this once every thousand years on average. It’s not cyclical. Two, the likelihood of these storms is steadily increasing and so it’s probably no longer a 1 in 1000 year event.
I’ve had some training in driving an emergency vehicle and I’ve been in the passenger’s seat a few times, so I know that the one thing the ambulance driver wants is predictability. Do whatever you can to safely get out of their way. Usually that means moving over to the side of the road and slowing down, but if it’s really slow traffic you might have to stop. Whatever you do, don’t stop while you’re in their way.
Tldr: stay calm and use your common sense.
FYI, the premier is like the state governor and the prime minister is like the president.
Cave rescue is a different discipline to urban search and rescue (USAR). It’s unlikely that if you’re good enough at cave rescue to travel internationally to do it, that you’re also going to be good enough at USAR to go on an international deployment.
Mmmm yeah, I currently work in a cafe, so I get the benefits of climate control with the benefits of basically only dealing with people face to face. If it was a better paid job I’d probably just stay in it.
