Publicly putting groups in your cross hairs tends to motivate said group.
People with advanced education have a much easier time immigrating.
Not getting caught is cheaper than an Uber. Nobody expects to get caught, that’s why they do it.
Even if you think ride shares are cheap, they aren’t cheap enough. We need public transit level cheap, but has to feel safe for everyone, at night. This is one of the better use cases for self driving cars.
At my school(in the 90s) we were taught the pledge, but didn’t really do it again after that except a few special occasions.
What makes them a group?
The thought process of people who down vote you are the reason black people aren’t catching up as quickly as we like, they don’t even try to find the root cause that plagues black families today, they just wave their hands in the air and use their magic word racism.
The subjugated people can be compensated without introducing/codifying systemic racial policies.
Replacing bad drivers with ok drivers is a net win. Let’s not leave perfection be the enemy of progress.
Equality people: “Let’s fund these people who are objectively poor, they are disadvantaged and need it.”.
Equity people: “let’s fund people part of this group I can clearly identify by looking at them. They are likely to be disadvantaged.”
We have need based programs to address people who need help. Why not bolster to those? Why focus on shifting resources/programs away from the poor to people who objectively don’t need it as much? We know how much people need, we can measure income.
How much money/time/reaources are going into programs, grants, scholarships that target single demographics?
That’s not how equity works in practice. It doesn’t examine anyone’s actual capabilities or disadvantages. They bucket large groups of people into categories they deem worthy to receive resources, despite their actual need. Every person has their individual story, challenges, and priveleges yet equity assumes otherwise, that you deserve compensation based on the group you were assigned to, not what you actually need.
I don’t think so, not as a temporary measure. We are talking about a country being invaded, imaginr your friends, family, and fellow countrymen being murdered, displaced, and their rights and freedom stripped from them.
And you think it’s wrong to stop honoring the invaders culture while the invasion is actively in progress?
Phone holders need to be a thing. Maybe car manufacturers aren’t confident the general sizes of today’s phones won’t last long.
I wasn’t sure what handheld PC alternatives to steam deck were out and I just assumed they were low tier cheap versions. Wow was I wrong, those look nice, but get pricey. The specs look really good on that one you mentioned, the Ayaneo geek 1s.
As a steam deck owner I’m very happy with it, I’ve only used it in hand held mode. I just got the dock for it, I am a little concerned I’ll notice any performance issues more when hooked up to a large screen. I would love some time to try these alternatives out.
Privacy.com is really good for online payments that don’t accept apple/Google pay. It creates a virtual credit card that’s locked to that particular vendor so even if the vendor has a data beach hackers can’t use the card.
Uhh, some of us would not like to see a cooperation profit off of our contributions. This is a perfectly fine place to discuss our exit strategy of a service we have contributed content for for years.
Most people are brand new to Lemmy and this will be the case for a long time. It’s inevitable for information to be repeated for a while.
I don’t get how my headlights can be set to off and for some reason they are still on. And I don’t need my headlights to stay on for 30 seconds after I leave my car, I want to know that my lights are off and I won’t wake up to a dead battery. (Luckily I just figured out how to disable this)
And automatic lift gates that don’t open unless 10 unknown conditions are met is infuriating. It’s not a useful feature unless your disabled.
I do like those unlock buttons on the door handles when your keys are nearby though… When they work anyways.
Not entirely true. Cops are fired, penalized, and held legally accountable quite often. Not frequently enough but you’re stating that they are immune.
Qualified immunity protects state and local officials, including law enforcement officers, from individual liability unless the official violated a clearly established constitutional right.
