4·2 months agoI’d hope NATO actually makes a clear distinction between aggressors and defenders in a war. Trump has already twisted ‘national threat’ to justify whatever he wants, and while his own country seems fine with it, I can’t imagine international allies just going along with that kind of logic

3·4 months agoIt’s a sliding slope though. The initial reasoning is fair. But it will eventually spread to other features like (potentially) creating and owning servers or holding administrative and moderation roles
It’s the same with the chat control currently looking over EU. Nobody can say that they are against efforts to stop CSAM. The issue is that the efforts don’t limit themselves to fighting that. Likewise the age verification on Discord does not seem to be targeted or limited to certain content. They are leaving the door open to use it any way they want

Yeah the involvement of US politicians, billionaires and celebrities in the Epstein afair, clearly shows that it is a career killer to be mentioned in them 🤦
The real problem is, that the majority of users won’t change, and it’s the users that make Discord. There could be a much better alternative but if users are too lazy to change, it is worth nothing.
This is the case with Facebook messenger too. There are great alternatives, but it’s messenger that has the userbase

4·4 months agoI agree that it is good with transparency, but then this should also be freely available on the Lemmy platform, and even the clients, in the same way as modlogs list what is going on.
I knew that admins could somehow go into the database and check who has done what, but I assumed that this was only the admin, and maybe even that the info was encrypted. It’s alright with me that it’s not, but then why not display it on each post and comment, with a list of interactions to it.

It’s also petty… But knowing that this is so easy to identify people behind vote activity fundamentally changes how I feel about Lemmy
Not true. I. Most cases they are better protected against the elements if underground.
But it costs money to do and requires higher tax rates to be spent on it instead of military and paying off corrupted politicians

The part where he told NATO that he has done a lot of great things for NATO so now it is NATOS turn to do USA a favour sounded a lot like ‘ill put you through college if you just do me a little favour’
And the cover up attempt is even funnier.
I hope that it has scared them enough to lose trust in him in the long run
