  • A part of the solution is “government owned housing” rented at fair price. Most countries have such housing for “poor people” but not enough for everyone. Let alone the whole “cut-down in welfare budget” means that these building are badly maintained and that even if you’re poor enough but not homeless (e.g. full time minimal wage) you still need years for your application to be accepted. I believe that Denmark and Austria are the few countries where this model is common even for middle class. It may-be a model to follow, at least for lower middle class

  • It’s a normal part of the game. You need to accept the employer and employer needs to accept you.

It’s nicer to call them hey, I’m going to cancel as I am no longer interested but you could totally come to test the water and get interviews experience. Or even within 10 minutes raise a blocking point and leave.

Once I interviewed someone who was a great fit for the company, but not for that specific position, we kept it short, and I complained afterward to the HR who made both of us loose time. I hope that person is doing well

  • Another factor is that the EU doesn’t necesarily want to take the UK back.

The Brexit, and other anti-EU movement in Europe do not come out of nowhere, there is a lot of issue with how the EU works, and some fundamental disagreement between members (and/or political parties within member states) on how should the Europe evolve (Just a big free-trade area, or a continent sized nation with a real political power and geopolitical weight), this is the context behind Macron talking about a Multi speed Europe

A big question is whether we should take new members right now (including Ukraine/Turkey/UK) or deal on the institutional issue and agree in which direction we want to move together rather than taking more people
