Same here, bought a luxury safety razor for €79 with 50 blades. Alas, it’s adjustable and that mechanic failed. Got a gilette version from the 60s and that’s stoll fully functional, but the new one (qshave) is heavier and nicer to use. Bought a 20 pack of 10pc feather blades with it as well, 14 packs left. (280 weeks of shaving)

The type of razor is working out greatly, I just need to find a way to repair the qshave unit.

Nop, not here. When I buy cheap stuff it’s because I’m not sure if I want to spend more on something better. Just to feel the water. I bought a frettless bass for €82 to see if I like that type of bass playing. If not, no big loss (they sell for a lot more used), if I do like it, I guess it’ll stay. (I like it a lot, I’m just not that good yet in playing it)

Same with a clarinet mouthpiece + reed. At the store they had a range from €19 up to well over €100, but I have no clue if either a, the one I have works (mouthpiece is broken, reed is old) and b, I can/like to play it.

For some, these purchases would be considered useless, for me it’s to try something without to high investment, so it has purpose. When people really want to ‘throw away’ money and have nothing to show for it, there are enough charities that could use the donations.

To bw honest, no clue, both my parents didn’t have dirt floors and they were born in '43 and '48. Maybe my grandparents, but I can’t check anymore, as all family members at my mother’s side are dead, as well as the oldest ones at my father’s side. (Including both my parents)

I guess dirt floors were for the very poor pre WW2 in the Netherlands.

IPtv here is subscription based. Biggest advantage for me would be a cheaper TV provider then the terrible one that comes with the ftth line.

Really not much to say. The window of the bedroom was open and the wall with the ATM in it was in a straight ling about 50m behind the house. The 1st thing I noticed about the attempt to steal cash from the ATM by blowing it up was when the police was at the door the next morning asking if I heard something. I slept trough it all. (and still I wake up when one of the cats is about to throw up)

Thanks, especially the front door was a huge problem, lots of cold coming from there. Also the huge windows in the livingroom and kitchen on the 1st floor (ground floor is garage) were a huge advantage. Especially the gas bill went down a lot, not to much saving on electricity. The moment it starts to cool down, curtains close. (keeping the warmth in) Gas for heating costs loads more then the few cents extra for lighting.

Walking the dog. I can’t be bothered to exercise, but hate to have to clean up, so walking the dog is the best option.

NoScript, uBlock Origin and Dark mode. (But I prefer the experimental darkmode setting in Vivaldi) Those are essential to me.

Panorama view is close to essential, I wish I found a tab stack alternative that works with it. (Haven’t looked yet, Vivaldi is my current main browser, until Fifefox can get tames in the same way)

Mony Puthon and teh Holy Grain is epic. Saw it at elementary school ages ago (early 80s) and was looking for iit for ages. (Not speaking English yet, Imtotally forgot the title) Still need to watch Jabberwocky.

When done, Black Adder’s Christmas Carol is a belter as well. (The serie is nice as well, as id Red Dwarf)

I’s add Idiocracy and Don’t look up as well, but alas, both are documentaries by now. :(

My sewing machine. I (m) wanted curtains, my wife didn’t want to sow them (no sewing machine didn’t help).

Bought it last year (€270), made curtains troughout the house, monthly energy bill went from €630 to €230 a month due to savings on heating. (And I learned something new, always fun)

Was on twitter because ‘it was hot’. I never discovered why, I found it even more annoying then open plan office spaces, lots of unwanted noice, no content. So I left and never looked for an alternative.

Since I left, never felt fomo, just yomo. Especialky with Musk taking over xitter I’m amazed not everybody went quitter.

Hating kids. Never liked them when I was their age (it was mutual) and still don’t like them. It took ages to find a partner that feels the same. She kinda likes them, for a short time, but doesn’t want to have them, so that’s close enough.

Also, not caring about clothes. Yeah, you need to wear something, way to cold not to, but what… don’t care to much. Jump in store, get jeans (current favorite is a local farmers store brand, cheapest), next store, shirt and sweater, done. Record shopping time for a set that fitted was 15 min for 3 stores and 2 complete sets. Waste of money to have more then 1 set to wear, 1 in the laundry and one drying. (And 1 spare for emergencies, like missing your mouth with coffee when not awake yet)

I’m curious about the next gen chromecast as well. I heard/read that it could manage h265 content as well as it having google tv which you can use for IPtv.

Here it’s just rf433 for now. No need for more (apart from messing around with new stuff). As far as I understand Zigbee doesn’t use wifi, but it can be in the 2.4 GHz band.

Nobody in their right mind would be awake at those times… when the body would cooperate.

My wife goes to the attic to do the laundry when she can’t sleep. However, I sleep trough anything (even when they blown up an ATM on the parking lot behind the house) so I’m fine with that.

That your wife found you cleaning after she woke to go to the toilet, I see no problem. Having back issues keeping you awake isn’t normal and on the pther hand, when you look around at what is ‘normal’, would you want to be like that?

Maybe next time skip the powertools, but enjoy your tea when you can’t enjoy your sleep.

I’m perfect, it’s impossible for me to be wrong. ;) I can get additional facts and have a need to change my point of view, which is called learning.

At least at my house I got told loads of times that nature gave me a brain, so I should use it. So I’m always right… with the knowledge I have at that time. I’m never proven wrong, just that I lack knowledge. ;) (And from time to time I learn loads)

I just had the Dutch system Klik aan klik uit (kaku), both the old and the new units. Those 2 versions are incompatible and this way I can use both. I used just the new system, but with adding the old units as well I can now make nicer scenes. (turn lights on in a natural ‘entering the room’ order and turn them off the other way around, mimicking leaving the same room.

I’m just messing about as well and I don’t want to use wifi, that’s why I’m half looking at zugbee. (And Ikea uses that system, so I guess it’ll be available for a while)

I meant here and not the minor stuff like huge fires and floodings, but total climate colapse. I’m afraid we’re on the road to an extinction event, when we don’t already have triggered one by now.
