I know a couple teachers (college level) that have caught several gpt papers over the summer. It’s a great cheating tool but as with all cheating in the past you still have to basically learn the material (at least for narrative papers) to proof gpt properly. It doesn’t get jargon right, it makes things up, it makes no attempt to adhere to reason when it’s making an argument.

Using translation tools is extra obvious—have a native speaker proof your paper if you attempt to use an AI translator on a paper for credit!!

I get France 24 in English via antenna and feel like the coverage is less sensationalized than US based sources. Maybe they have hot takes on French politics but I feel like I can keep up generally with world politics and avoid too much US saturation (though they still cover the US disproportionately).

Advice on difficult to judge things like how to sauté onions correctly without burning them; how to deal with yeast (what does it mean when your bread is hollow? What about when it’s hard? Doesn’t rise?); how to make a cheese sauce that isn’t too thick, thin, or chunky; techniques for timing stuff to be ready at the right time (ie ‘cook the eggs last’); balancing things with lemon juice (in general the stuff about balancing acids); seasoning soups so they’re not bland.

Educating kids who want to understand American history is indoctrination, but getting them used to following arbitrary rules for 8 hours a day is what…

There’s something about knowing there are hundreds of others listening to the same station at the same time that makes my local EDM station somehow more interesting than just shuffling the same playlist at home. Could your issue with albums have a social element similar to how watching a live sports match is just more exciting than the rerun an hour later even if you don’t know the outcome?

Also, I disagree with people saying that albums tend to be more boring because only the radio hits are good! I have many albums I like to listen to start to finish.

Nazism was quite centralized and therefore easier to target and eliminate. The bureaucratic structure made it easy to find and convict the main players afterwards. The ideology wasn’t totally eliminated, but new laws and such helped tamp it down.

The taliban is much less centralized and on top of that the various governments involved don’t have a lot of incentive to fall into line like Germany (which the US came in and rebuilt with a ton of strings attached so that it wouldn’t lose its German market share).

Customer service is probably the easiest entry level remote job to get, but quite soul sucking—especially if they make you use a script. One suggestion I can offer is grant writing if you’re okay at crafting an argument. You can find small local orgs who will let you help write to get some experience then apply for jobs that pay decently.

I think Reddit likely lost a lot of users who were exclusively Reddit users and didn’t use other social media. That might not amount to that many people total, but it does mean advertisers lose one of the more important demographics Reddit had to offer (since they can target the others more efficiently on other platforms anyway). Hope it still hurts their bottom line.

I like Wells Fargo cause they’re the only ones who will give me quarters for cash without any questions and without needing an account with them. Groceries won’t give them anymore and my own local credit union only lets you get 2 rolls.

Just freecycled an almost new HP printer/scanner because of their ridiculous software locked cartridges that print like 20 pages total. I specified in the listing that the ink was expensive and that it would be best for someone who printed almost never and just wanted a scanner.

Idk I am worried about the phrasing “the city took possession.” Most cities don’t have their own dangerous lab bio cleanup experts.

Turnitin isn’t AI technology but I assume it has similar legal ramifications and a lot of schools require teachers to have everything go through turnitin (usually by having students submit online). It just spits out a percentage so that the prof can take a closer look. Real quotes count towards the percentage displayed. Maybe with AI you’d have a bit more of a case against the company because you might claim you trusted it to be accurate or something?

Could be used for coordinating large scale decentralized projects. Say we want to organize logistics of food so that everyone gets some. After calculating need for each locale independently, Blockchain could be used for people to commit to, for example, bringing 4 crates of carrots to a location for shipping. Additional blockchain ledgers might keep track of space on the transportation vehicles etc. The ledger’s main job here would be to ensure that a given task (or a given cubic foot for the space example) is not double booked, and to allow interested parties to see where there needs to be more commitment in order to feed everyone (or fill up the ship in the space example).

Going to a local ish (not entirely tourist) bar at the same time every week is a good one!

An old friend (30) recently moved to my area with their fiancé and they used bumble friends to find new friends. Dunno if it would work in a smaller place but maybe if you’re near the city
