Later they started fighting hard against the US government, going so far as to infiltrate several government buildings and destroying all documents the government had on them. Look up “Operation Snow White” if you don’t believe me.
Scientology reached tax-excempt status in 1993. My guess is they’ve fought dirty to get to that place, they probably have some inside-men in the government or they some have dirt on certain congressmen.

One of the newest Brandon Sanderson books “The Frugal Wizard’s Guide to Surviving Medieval England” has a similar premise. It’s a novel so not a how-to guide so to speak, but parts of it are an in-world manual on how to survive in a medieval alternate dimension.

If you think living somewhere else will make you happier, you should do it as long as it doesn’t screw you over financially. Even if you’re probably not at risk of persecution as a white male, I can fully understand not wanting to live in a christofascist hellscape. If you have friends in a more desirable area I’d consider moving there.

I once heard of AI gradually getting dumber overtime, because as the internet gets more saturated with AI content, stuff written by AI becomes part of the training data. I wonder if that’s what’s happening here.

I live in Norway, I haven’t seen any Lemmings but if I do, I now know to be afraid.
