I got a photo of his drivers license shortly before that, (needed his ID to close and cash out an RESP that had been setup for me in 2007).

In his DL photo, he looks like he’s had a really rough time since we left. Like he’s aged 30 years in half that time. The metadata of the photo shows it was taken at his moms house.

Serves him right.

Part of me sent the videos to see if he cared, part of me just wanted to make him remember he had a happy family and a fairly good life; until he ruined it.

Life hasn’t been easy for any of us, but this side of the family at least still has eachother. It’s the only thing that’s kept us going TBH.

My mother returned to Canada to visit her mother who was slowly dying of ALS. (Where I was born. We had moved to my fathers home country when I was 10, to see his side of the family and experience more of the world)

During her whole absence, my father cheated on her with various women, even taking me on a couple of his dates. When she got back and found out, she decided to leave permanently.

I (12m) was given the option of staying with either. I chose to go with her.

In the last week before I was to leave; he said he wanted to spend time with me and took me out to a couple ‘fun tourist attractions’. A jet boat ride, a zipline, some random park. Each of these, he brought one of his girlfriends that he’d been cheating with (not the same one each time). We also went to at least one of their houses, as well as his weed dealers hidden under-house grow-op/party room thing. More focused on his dates than actually spending any time with me. Avoiding time with me had been a common theme throughout our lives/relationship.

I later learned he’d abused my older step-sister when she was much younger…

I’ve deliberately not spoken to him since. ~15 years later I sent him a couple old family videos I’d digitised (with my sister censored out of them), of when I was born and a few of the years immediately after. Mostly as a reminder of what he threw in the trash.

From what I’ve heard, he ended up homeless and jobless for quite a while and now lives with his mother.

I miss having my Motorola Z2 Play, with the Moto-Mods platform, as a daily phone.

External mods that magnetically attach to the back of the phone. Primarily an extra 3500mah battery, but there were others: 360 camera, a printer, 3" stereo speakers, and even a projector.

I actually still have this phone, but it has become extremely slow, doesn’t get security updates, and is incompatible with lots of apps. It now lives on the handle bars of my ebike, with it’s extra battery mod; mostly as a gps. Occasionally I’ll use it with the projector on the wall of my bedroom; watching movies or youtube.

Drones are an effective tool on an open battle field; but they operate under wildly different conditions. Wide open spaces and short contacts (find target, ram to explode. They don’t have to loiter and maintain that contact).

A pepper spray equipped drone in a school??? Tight enclosed spaces with halls and doorways (that are usually closed) you’ve got to navigate. Quad copters are loud, and that’d be amplified by that enclosed space. Without sufficient distance to keep out of reach they’d be an easy target to take down by the assailant. To use the spray, you’d have to get near, deploy it, and escape before being struck down; giving the spray to the assailant to harvest and use.

AND they’ve only got 8min of flight time.

I fucking hate Discord and how it’s absorbed what should be forums.

When I’m creating a discussion online about a particular game or project, I’m looking to hear from the broader community over a longer term; not just limited to whomever happens to be online on this one specific platform at the time of posting.

People have different schedules, we’re not all online together at the same times; especially when you factor in timezones. Discord however makes it massively frustrating if not impossible to hold a discussion unless everyone you want to talk to is present and ready to read and reply now. Otherwise your conversation gets burried in the mess of other people having their own conversations and nobody wants to scroll through thousands of messages in the history of when they last logged on.

You can break out conversations into their own rooms, but that only goes so far and at that point you may as well just have a damn forum; that’s what they are for.

Then you get into the problem of repetition and searchability. People often run into common problems or ask the same questions; but with Discord, you’ve got to re-explain the same things every time they’re brought up, instead of just pointing the user to an old forum post that already solves their problem (they may have even found it themselves through a web search, saving them from even having to ask and waste people’s time. Discord isn’t indexed by search engines so old conversations/solutions are lost).

A group chat platform is not an acceptable replacement for a forum and I will die on that god damn hill.
